1LE suspension upgrade on non MRC ss

I wonder how well it would work?

I didn't add this because there were comments I thought made by the motor trend staff that they liked the car without MRC better. Now I wish I ordered it.

Here's the MotorTrend article you're referring to:

"This Camaro SS is the 2SS model. Even though it’s about $9K pricier than the 1SS model we tested for Car of the Year, we don’t like it as much. Objectively, the performance is almost identical. Look at the figure-eight times. Both ran a 24.1-second lap. However, both Cammisa and I preferred the ride and handling from the fixed suspension on the 1SS to the adjustable magnetorheological dampers on the 2SS. We also both preferred the way the Camaro tore up a ribbon of asphalt compared to the M4.

http://www.motortrend.com/cars/chevr...let-camaro-ss/

I also got the standard suspension and one of the reasons why was that I knew GM would eventually offer the ZL1 1LE suspension kit, similar to how they offer the 5th gen Z28 kit. That entire kit with DSSV dampers can be had for less than $3k, but it includes everything.

If you opt for MRC ($1700) and then add the 1LE kit ($1200), you're at a similar price point.

Decisions, decisions...

I forgot to respond to your actual question. I don't think it will work very well. You'll be combining stiffer/shorter springs with dampers not meant for them.

I suspect you'd be better off getting these two packages, with dampers tuned for the stiffer/shorter springs:

On a side note: Does anyone know the spring rate difference between the kit I linked above and the FE4 / SS 1LE springs?

Thanks for the info. I knew I heard that.

That would be great if GM did offer the ZL1 LE kit at a reasonable price.

The sway bars from the second package are from the 1LE so I'm not sure how well they would work with a non MRC ss.

That's correct that the swaybar kit is the 1LE hardware. However, it appears GM designed the "SC3" lowering kit (springs & shocks/struts) and that swaybar kit to work together on non-MRC cars.

Here's the evidence of that. The description on the Chevrolet Accessory website says this:

"Enhance your vehicle's road-handling performance with this Performance Handling Package. Contents include front and rear stabilizer bar and front handling links. When combined with the SG3 Suspension Lowering Kit, vehicle roll is reduced by 18%. (Available exclusively on Coupe models equipped with the 6.2L V8 LT1 engine and without Magnetic Ride Control.)"

The ZLE suspension will be the hot setup.

Don't underestimate the value of MRC in daily driving. It soaks up rough road better than traditional shocks and struts. There is a 'tuner' coming for MRC so stay tuned.

Any idea when the ZL1 1LE kit will be available to purchase? Will it lower the car at all?

ZLE parts should be available as soon as the car is released to dealers. The ZLE DSSV is height adjustable.

DSC is already out now for the Camaro and Viking is still under development, but expecting $6k for the kit.

Is there another player?

To my knowledge and having just checked both the DSC and RideTech web sites the magne controllers are not yet released.
