Another post oil change question
Bought my Camaro used a couple months ago, finally got around to changing the oil for the first time a couple days ago. All went well, used Mobil 1 and the stock ACDelco filter, my only issue is reading the dip stick. Even after letting the car set overnight, when I pull the dipstick, there is so much residual oil on the stick and the oil is so light, I can't get a clear reading. I put the recommended 8 quarts in it, but I'd like to confirm the level is good. After a drive yesterday, I pulled the dipstick last evening and left it out hoping all the oil on the walls of the tube would drain down and a clean insert might come back out clean. Anyone have any advice or tricks? I'm not a mechanic by trade, but I've been doing oil changes for 40 years on all sorts of cars and bikes, kinda embarrassed to say I can't read a dipstick.
Awesome car BTW, waited on it for a long, long time, couldn't be happier with it. |

I have to reflect a strong light source off of the dipstick at the right angle to see where looks "wet". Otherwise, yes, its so clear I can't see it. I also set a fresh piece of paper towel against it to see where it blots.
