I'd like to be able to turn it on when I want. If the sun is setting behind you, or someone is driving with those obnoxious and illegal l.e.d. off road lights. Just a simple auto/on/off switch.

Reviving old thread because i wish i could disable this. The side mirrors are hard to see out of with tints. And the rear view even in a convertible with the top down you can't tell what's a cop and what's a grandma. I've grown exceptionally well at distinguishing car models by head lights, I've been doing this for years now im scared to WOT at night.

True that. I had a similar conversation with, I think, lokitwitch04 back then, it seems GM saved a few pennies and there is no circuit on the passenger side, nor does the mirror have the required layers.

GM parts sites have the wrong information on the pass side mirror, by the way... I even ordered a new glass, thinking it would have the auto-dimming feature, but then I was informed about the sad facts.

Which mirrors are we talking about here? The windshield rearview dimming mirror is amazing. I never knew how much I loved it until I bought the 18 SS that didn't have it after driving my truck with it for the 3 years prior. Needless to say I was very happy to have it in the ZL1 when I upgraded the SS.

If we are talking about side mirrors, I don't even notice it because I have my mirrors properly aimed and never get direct light from people behind me.

Damn, sorry you went thru all of that for nothing. To me, it's just another example of cutting corners on something that, in the end, wouldn't cost GM much money but contributes to the negative opinion that most have of them. If you want to cut corners on cheaper models, fine. But, to cut corners on a Camaro SS and up is ridiculous to me. My $30K Mazda3 Hatchback is equipped almost as well as my $55K Camaro SS. My previous 2 cars, Lexus RC350 F-Sport and Infiniti Q60, both had the auto-dimming side mirrors. When I noticed that my Camaro SS only did it on the driver's side, my first thought was, "Yep, I'm driving GM again!".

Yep, save a $1.00.

I love the feature and was thrilled when my cars had it. My truck has it on all 3 mirrors.

Yes, but I wish it would dim more. The HIDs that can spot a turd on a gnat's rear end from 50 paces are still very bright through the auto-dimming mirror

Isn't there a button on the bottom of the mirror? Not sure.
