2019 GT500?
Some photos are being dropped on the mustang forums this weekend of a "leaked" gt500 platform. Here's a link to the site.

Yeah I would expect Ford to go after the kitty market with the 500. Question is can they keep it under 4500 lbs and not have the car break every fifth pass...

Is it interesting to see what other companies are developing? Certainly. Would I ever buy one? There is less than a 1% chance that I would. I simply enjoy it because competition breeds success and it pushes GM to up the ante on future products. This new GT500 will surely push the domestic performance market even more.
Gearheads rejoice!

If it had the benefit of the A10, or even the A6 it would still be quicker than a new ZL1 or Hellcat for that matter. Lets see if Ford continues the "1-up" game and goes big, or just makes due with Hellcat+10 HP. |

No, 5 years earlier.
'13 GT500 released in 2012 had 662hp as posted above. As has been mentioned above by Martinjlm, Ford isn't benchmarking Camaro with the GT500, they will likely set their sights higher. Look at Ford's history: 03 Cobra, first SC pony car when the Camaro/Firebird were left to die and nothing from Dodge, 500hp GT500 still no direct competition, then 662hp in 2012 going above ZR1 numbers... A 725hp GT500 and 815hp GT500R would definitely get some attention. |

Did someone say Cobra? Just kidding.
I'm seriously looking at a 2018 ZL1 and don't have much faith in the next GT500 being priced in the same ballpark. Dealer markup is going to be insane. I held onto my Cobra for so long, because "upgrades" didn't seem necessary. The ZL1 has a lot going for it and has me interested. There isn't a supercharged V8 in Ford's current lineup. The Camaro has benefited from the trickle down from the Corvette program, where Ford is going to trickle up. Quote:

Its crazy that we have 1/2 ton pickups approaching 70k... I had a '14GT500 for a while, purchased in 2013 for just under 56k, fun car and fast, but my bad left knee hated that clutch. Bang for the buck HP wise, you couldnt come close to the 13/14GT500. 600hp to the wheels stock and 700+ with pulley/tune, but I was really hoping for an auto trans, I hope they utilize the 10sp this time.. If the new GT500 raises the bar again, I expect dealer markups to be insane as usual. Regarding that mystic Cobra, never ever ever ever ever sell that car. I remember back in May 2004 seeing a mystic coupe and convertible next to each other in a dealership in Indiana, and they were really wanting to deal since nobody wanted those colors, you could even get 0% on them at the time I believe. Truly a beautiful car. |
