track fever

Hello all, new to this forum but I'm curious if any LS owners have any track experience with stock brakes and tires. Stock brakes and all-seasons obviously aren't ideal but I was just wondering how well they'd hold out for some hot laps at a track night this summer. Is it a bad idea? I was thinking about sliding in a better set of brake pads but to my understanding they'd probably require some new rotors down the road..

Track fever? Have you tried more cowbell? I hear that's a cure for some fevers.

If you're doing 10-20 minute sessions on a 1.5-ish - 2.5-ish mile track you should be fine. During the end of each session you'll have to use a new braking marker than your 2nd lap. Take my opinion for what it's worth though cause I got a turbo right behind each brake generating excess heat that a stock LS won't have so my brakes may be heating up much faster in my sessions.

remember not to use your parking brake. Just put it in gear when you park and you'll be fine.

Change to DOT4 brake fluid and you'll be much better off. Aside from that just be aware of the feedback your car is giving you.

I took my LS out to auto club speedway with stock brakes and they didn't like it at all. They started to fade and after that day they started to shake. I'm sure they would've been fine if I had the rotors turned.

Yeah just pay attention ti what the car is telling you. Stock v6 brakes fade out after about 6 laps of track use, maybe less

Yeah I contemplated hitting the track entirely stock, but the LS has the crappy all seasons (and a low speed governor like 118?) and the stock brakes to me just wouldn't be sufficient for such a heavy car in a track environment. So I decided what I'll do is buy a set of SS brembo take offs and get some 19x10 forgestars all around with some sticker rubber. Then I'll get the governor recalibrated. Go big or go home right? Plus I can sell the V6 brakes, rotors, tires, and wheels to offset the cost a bit and they won't be wore out.

yeah the speed limiter was a pain in the ass. Like VR Baron said v6 brakes are fine for a few laps, especially if the tracks straightaways aren't that long.

I think the tires are the main concern here. The compound is too hard for hard cornering. If I push my LS on the street at all, the tires just scratch and whine the whole time, and that's not pushing it very hard.

You'll get it around the track just fine, but beware of its limitations. Hard tires, brakes that aren't going to hold up to laps and laps of abuse.

I agree the tires are by no means performance tires lol
If I drop down to second on a sharp corner and accelerate harder than dual by just a tad my tires are signing. Don't get me wrong love the sound but I wouldn't try that on a race track pushing it even harder. I'm a newbie to road course but I'd be a lot more comfortable with sticker tires and better brakes.

I wouldn't sell any of your V6 stuff. Sometimes OE stuff is hard to find or very expensive and you may want to go back to stock someday. I have a HUGE pile of factory parts! Most up in my attic collecting dust.
