Paid for the event and tried to register on the HOD site, but the Novice 1 Class is full. What are the options for a no previous experience driver?

I have a question about the helmets. I ride motorcycles, and I have a DOT appoved helmet. What is the difference between a DOT and Snell helmet. If there is one do I need to go ahead and buy a helmet for the track day?

Something about M rated helmets are designed for a different style of impact compared to SA helmets. Most likely you will have to have a SA2005 or newer helmet. I didn't sleep at a holiday inn last night so I could be wrong.

From what I've read, the motorcycle helmet spec does not include the fire protection rating the automobile helmets do. SCCA will not accept SA rated motorcycle helmets for any of their sanctioned events.

In NASA sanctioned events, you must have a 2010 Snell SA 2010 certified helmet. Open face helmets are allowed, unless you are running in an open wheeled class / event.

I am unsure of what Hooked on Driving recommends. I think we are more closely following their standards --- From HOD Site: SA 2005 designation or newer.

Motorcycle helmets are not allowed. I had to buy a new Snell approved helmet last time the Fest was in Bowling Green because the motorcycle one I had was not going to be allowed.

Sign up as Novice 2. Both groups will undergo the same sort of in-class training to start. In the meantime, I will get in touch with the HoD folks to open up the Novice 1 class, just in case - thanks for bringing that to my attention!

You're all correct: Snell SA2005 or newer will be required.

As I understand it there are two major differences between M (motorcycle), and SA (auto)...the M helmets don't have the same sort of fire retardant construction/materials...and the M helmets are designed for single major impacts...the SA helmets are designed to sustain multiple impacts (from, say, a roll bar, or steering wheel)

ALSO!!!!

GREAT NEWS!!!!

WE ARE GOING TO USE THE FULL TRACK!
I just have to make the call this afternoon to confirm with NCM MSP.

We have 72 people currently signed up, and that's enough for us to go through with it. We hope to get a few more people sign up in the next few weeks, but I don't see a need for any donations. However: I want you all to know that we deeply appreciate the offers. The price has gone up, nevertheless, so you all who got in early saved $20!

You guys are a blast!

Hooked On Driving usually has a helmet rental for a fee on site at my local track but you may have to contact them and or the NCM track to see if they also will have this for our track date.
