Who else is pumped about the 8l90 over the 6l80?

It's great that every SS gets the big dog 8l90. If it's good for a 650hp z06 or 640hp cts-v it should be a very stout tranny. Even used in the 12000lb towing capacity Silverado that has 420hp.

When they upgraded from the 4l60/65 to the 6l80 we finally had a transmission that can go the distance, but at 500whp you could start to see some troubles. Only the factory supercharged cars got the 6l90.

Just glad we are not getting a middle of the road "8l80".

"The only difference between the type of 8L90 that the Stingray will use when compared to the Z06 are*unique clutch and torque converter specifications matched to the lowered torque capacity of the base Corvette.*"

The 8 speed auto will be a strong selling point for a lot of people I think. I know that the 8 speed in the Charger/Challenger really woke the cars up....

7th gear is garbage according to vette owners. Hard to shift into, rarely any use for it, etc.

6 gears with REV match is fine for me.

7th gear is supposed to be like that, it is an overdrive gear. I suspect those C7 guys crying about don't understand the benifits. I was really looking forward to having six usable gears especially at the track. The tracks o run on wood be perfect for a M7, there are many times where I have to stay in 2nd but want to be in third the extra gear makes the ratios shorter allowing more fleixbitly to stay in the power range. This is the biggest misfortune for the gen 6 I see. At least it doesn't have AFM.

I'm disappointed the 4 and 6 manuals don't get the rev matching. I think that would have been a huge selling point for the high volume models since it makes daily driving easier.

Yeah but didn't they go from 4 & 5 speed autos to 8 speeds?

I'm totally stoked for the 8l90! When I bought my 2011 1LT, it was a commuter car for at 100 mile round trip workday in stop and go traffic. Got the auto for convenience, and played around with the paddle shifters. Once you get used to it, it's great. The 8l90 makes a big difference in the 'vette. One of the other reasons I didn't get the LS3 last time was the power reduction on the auto. I'm not paying more to get less HP, just so we don't hurt the manual guy's feelings if we're faster.

A8 all the way. I'm sitting in traffic 80% of my commute and I don't road race. With the A8 at least I can hit the strip once in a while and get a good time to brag to my friends about.

I'm excited about the 8 speed. I don't race, and I don't plan on modding my car (at least until the warranty expires), but I'm pretty excited about better performance and better fuel economy.

I have zero confidence in GM's ability to build a reliable automatic transmission. It's manual only for me.
