Exclamation New Owner today - problem with engine?

So today I picked up the only 45th Anniv V6 6sp RS in all of MN!

However on the way home, the dealer is 2hr north of my house, the car felt sluggish. I didn't want to go back to the dealer up there, wasn't practical. Passing in 6th gear was slow from 70-75mph, my V6 6sp Honda Accord I traded in would zip faster with a touch on the gas...

My mileage cruising, was under 24mph at 68mph. I guess I'm wondering if I may have a cylinder misfiring? Car just feels like a dog, but I have nothing to compare it to. Is the car just heavy, so I need to use lower gears? It has about 200mi on it now, do the pistons need to seed or something to get the best compression? Maybe bad gas?

Ugh, I'm just confused, I assume dealer did pre delivery inspection and would have known if there was an issue?

If the engine only has 200 miles on it, it may just need to be broken in.

Sounds like you need to downshift. These are bigger cars and 6th is just to get you better mileage. Drop it down a gear or two. The V6 is happier accelerating in the mid-to-upper rpm ranges. It also does matter that it is new, mine got faster after putting some miles on it.

Awesome, thanks for replies! I'll work on downshifting, I noticed too that where I would have used 3rd gear turning through a stop light, 2nd felt better with this car. I'm impressed how many people chimed in so quick! I'm thinking a found a good forum to join!

Yup 6 gear will always feel like a dog when accelerating. I'm new to daily driving a stick and a few times I've thought "wow, I really should have downshifted."

Took me awhile to get used to a 6 speed. I had never driven anything but a 4 speed manual.

Even the V8 M6 prefers to go around a slow corner in 2nd. I think once you get use to the different gearing, and it is broken in, it will feel plenty powerful for a V6. It's a lot heavier than a Honda, and I think that's a good thing.

6th is really only good for steady cruise 70+. Grab a gear or two lower to pass.

In the V8s, the real fun passing gear is 3rd. Probably the same in the sixer. A screaming engine is a happy engine.

Welcome to the forum......this is a great place for information and friends.

I have a M6 and it took just a bit to learn the gears and shift points but it felt alot faster since I am use to driving a 2500 HD Duramax Crewcab 4x4.....

+1, love 3rd gear, except getting into it. Once it's in, it's the bomb.
