Dont change oil for 2 years?

So I have had my 14 1LE SS now since December '13. I recently started getting calls from the dealer to take my car in for its scheduled service. SO I made the appointment.

First of all, I barely drive my Camaro, it mostly sits in the garage as I have a daily driver nearing 9 months old it only has 2500 miles on it and its on the original oil & filter. Anyway, went in today to the dealer, Chevrolet of Puyallup, and said I was there for my 1:00 appointment. The service gentleman asked what percent my oil was and I said I wasnt sure, havent checked. He runs out and and checks for me.

He came back and tells me he will have to charge me since its still at 66% life, even though I was told I have free oil changes for life when I bought the car. I reminded him that the car was about 9 months on the original oil and filter, and he informed me it doesnt matter with synthetic oil, even if it takes 2 years, they have to go off the life %..

I could be completely ignorant but could someone with knowledge please explain this?

You should do an oil/filter change at least once a year regardless of miles

I was told the same thing. Told GM will not authorize a free oil change unless the % is below 25. That was one month ago. I'm still at 40% and 4600 miles.

it says that for the LFX with the synthetic blend. does the OM also say that for the SS and up, which I assume use a full synthetic?

If you paid for lifetime oil changes, then a minimum once a year they should be doing it. Why are the simplest things always so difficult?

In gm cars, I go off the life monitor or a year which ever comes first. These free oil change dealers crack me up because you know damn well the same guy that is telling the free oil change customer not until the DIC is below a certain percent is also telling everyone else that oil needs changed every 3,000 miles.

IMHO your better of changing it yourself. I just did mine at 1500 miles ( first oil change ) and went with a Mobil 1 oil filter ( M1-113 ) and 8 quarts of Mobil 1, 0-40 European formula . Going to change it every 4000 miles . Filter $5.00,oil $36.00 ,peace of mind priceless.

Talk to the service manager to make certain but most "Free" oil changes only cover the oil change after the % is below a certain percentage or after 1 year has past whichever happens first.

I went through this same crap last week with my 2014 SS. My car is a weekend car and after 4 months I just cracked 1500 miles. The oil life read 80%. They refused to change the oil. If I followed the percentage I would go years without an oil change.
Through a lot of back and forth they eventually did it. I had to remind them that I paid $40K plus for the car and that those "free" oil changes were build into the price of the car. You don't really believe GM is giving us them for free.

Talk to the service manager. Remind them what you paid for the car. They will do it. Then tell the manager you don't want the oil life button reset.

I change mine with Mobil 1 once a year even though I'm only averaging 1,680 miles per year.

Service manager told me 2 free oil/filter changes per year for 2 years. Surprised to hear others having problems with their dealer on this.
I am taking our '14 SS with 1,560 miles to our dealer today for its first free oil/filter change.
Wife has owned it for 6 months and the oil life is at 85%.
