Interesting E15 information
http://washingtonexaminer.com/study-...rticle/2520078
"The additional E15 testing, completed this month, has identified an elevated incidence of fuel pump failures, fuel system component swelling, and impairment of fuel measurement systems in some of the vehicles tested. E15 could cause erratic and misleading fuel gauge readings or cause faulty check engine light illuminations. It also could cause critical components to break and stop fuel flow to the engine. Failure of these components could result in breakdowns that leave consumers stranded on busy roads and highways. Fuel system component problems did not develop in the CRC tests when either E10 or E0 was used. It is difficult to precisely calculate how many vehicles E15 could harm. That depends on how widely it is used and other factors. But, given the kinds of vehicles tested, it is safe to say that millions could be impacted."

Hey, don't knock E15.
The government knows what's best for you and will stop at nothing to make sure you get it. |

I read that mandantory E15 is being pushed by the corn lobbyists, trying to expand their market for corn.
Right now, E85 in my town is MORE expensive per gallon than regular E10 and E10 has more energy/gallon than E85.

So how come E85 and E10 are all fine and dandy, but somehow E15 is the bane of all evil and melts fuel systems?

uh I wouldn't put E85 in your car, and a flex fuel car would run fine on E15. The cars they are talking about are the other 90% made to run on gas... Ethanol (alcohol) is mildly corrosive to the fuel line o-rings and doesn't keep them supple. You develop leaks damage injectors etc. This is all correctable in the initial assembly of the vehicle. People are broke and buying a new car to just run a different gasoline isn't viable.

The fuel itself isn't the problem. Most cars aren't built to handle the amount of alcohol in E15. At E10 and below levels its diluted enough that it doesn't cause any damage. If the government forces the use of E15 its going to cause problems for cars that weren't built for it.

it's not that they're forcing us to use E15, it's more the amount of ethanol that's mandated to be used. the number of gallons goes up every year, and without an increase in gasoline use the only way to absorb the additional gallons required is to increase the amount of it in every gallon of gas. it wont end there either. as more and more ethanol is required that percentage will necessarily have to go up. E20, E25, and E30 are in our future. and the worst part is, this is mandated in law. that's why gas companies have to do this. and it's not a regulation that can just be undone. |

Just check your owners manual for what it was designed for. I know my '10 SS was E10, and my '12 says '15. Not going to melt anything if it was designed for it. But don't put E15 in a car that was only engineered for E10.

of course you have. you race with E85 despite the fact ethanol produces far less power than gas. now tell me how you blow the doors off everyone too. |
