Tonneau cover question?

So I purchased a 2015 SS vert in April that didn't come with the tonneau/boot cover as advertised. In between going back and forth with the used car dealer, I got a used one, for a steal, on eBay. Today, I finally got another, used one, from the dealer.

My question is, the two covers have two different securing methods. The one, has a "cloth" covered elastic eye strap that hooks over the two buttons behind the back seat. The other has a "V" cut plastic tab that looks like it should snap over the buttons behind the rear seat.

I would like to know which one is the newer cover and any issues with either, Thanks!

Mines a 14 and it has the elastic straps. I've heard that's the newer one.

Thanks Whoomba, that helps! I would think its more secure also. It looks like the other one could become detached at highway speeds. I'm going to stick with the original one I bought (Elastic strap) and sell the other one!

You need to look at the inside of your car and see if you have the little nipped that the elastic get attached To. If you have them, then yes, the one from the dealer is the way to go. Those elastic bands get attached to those nipples to hold the cover down securly.

Joe, thanks! The original cover I bought has the elastic and works great with the attachments behind the rear seat. The one I got today, has the plastic tabs with the "v" cut. So I'm going to keep the original one with the elastic bands and sell the other!

Which one did you get from the dealer? If it is the one without the bungee straps, then I would take it back to them and have them get you the newer style one that was supposed to come with your car not the older style that didn't work all that well.

Thanks for the reply! The car was used from a dealer, so they sent me a used cover (The one with the tabs, not the bungees) The one I bought and will continue to use has the bungees!

I have a 2011 that I've owned since new and came with the tonneau cover. The 2011 has the v-cut plastic tabs.

Earlier tonneau covers only have a problem at highway speeds north of 60 miles per hour. Chevy fixed the cover design I think starting in 2013, after many complaints. Ebay seller don't specify cuz they know the tabbed ones are less desirable.

I bought my car from a used dealer as well. Not for sure if the Tonneau cover was an option on my 2015 or if it was suppose to be included. The dealer bought me a new one anyway after i bought the car. Mine has the little bungee cords.

Not all convertibles came with the tonneau cover. When you buy a used one you have to check for it because even if it came with the car when new, they disappear when the first owner trades it in. I looked at several 2015's that came with the cover from the factory and only one still had it. The build sheet (VIS Report) will tell you if it did. I always have my local dealer run the VIN's of any Chevy I am looking at so I can review the options.

IIRC, 2LT and 2SS, when new, INCLUDED the tonneau cover (regardless of whether RS or not).

1LT and 1SS did NOT include the tonneau cover and was a $200 add-on accessory. I think GM is selling them for even more now.

Right O, that's what keeps me from getting one, probably north of 450, with install(posts).

I have the elastic on my 2012 and it blew off in a heavy cross wind. Velcro between the front edge of the tonneau and the well it sits in has fixed that. Also, put a towel between your top and the cover to prevent/remedy shiny/flat spots the cover creates on that panel of the top.
