The 2002-2004 C5 Z06 also could run 11s in the hands of a skilled driver and some good DA.

Not too many drivers can pull 1.7 60' on a bone stock car like the guy with the C7 did. That is is definitely some good driving.

The new 6th gen needs to pull at least high 11's hero runs and mid 12's as average runs to be a success IMO. You have to hope it will gain 30HP and be at least 200lbs lighter so it better be a half second quicker. I really think the car will get smoked by the Mustang in a straight line if its not running high 11's for perfect conditions to mid 12's for average conditions. Even high 11's may not get the job done if the Mustang loses 200lbs and gains 30HP.

Some of you are trying to figure out way too much with so little actual input.

Use the LS3 Corvette vs LS3 Camaro vs LS3 G8 GXP for example. Compare what the 3300lb Corvette runs vs the 3800lb Camaro as it's almost a complete second difference. But then compare the Camaro to the G8 and it skews the entire "what it should run" ideal.

In short even if the LT1 has no horsepower difference C7 to Camaro 6 it can still be nutted with a lame tune or loads of TM/TR. Therefore you can't even guesstimate as it's impossible to factor in an unknown variable.

Not sure what you mean because a narrow body LS3 Vette is 3250lbs with 436HP vs a 5th gen LS3 at 3850lbs and 426HP. Its more like a .7 second and 7mph difference so the math works out pretty good.

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to get into the 11's.......

The vette guys are expecting mid to low 11 hero times out of the car in the future.

The DA was 500, the car could have had less gas in it, the driver was 230 lbs and the car will gain a bit of power with some more miles on it.

Damn...these things just keep impressing me more and more. 11.67 bone stock and now 11.4 with a tune. LT headers and tires and your looking at easy low 11s or high 10s.

The damn car is a Mustang GT500 eater with minimal mods. Amazing!

All depends on weight, of course.

If we're lucky, and the car on the Alpha platform - with a V8 - weighs only 3500-3600 lbs...it could be very very close!

I think a 3600 lb LT-1 powered Camaro is probable, if not likely....but I've got nothing concrete to prove that, besides educated guesses based on past engineering techniques...

They say...in that weight range...every 100 lbs is worth a tenth...

Should we talk about tires, too?

The independent suspension likely doesn't help in shaving weight either.

In the end, if the V8 Mustang weighs much under 3,400 if it even gets under that I'll be pretty impressed. It would have to weigh around 3,200 lbs if it lost 400 lbs.
New Mustang is riding on a new chassis. It will lose 350-400lbs, thats a given.
