Anybody Else Notice 10% PRICE JUMP? (2014 2SS)

Yikes! I'm looking at my options. About a week ago I got freaked when I noticed about a four or five thousand dollar price jump on a 2014 2SS well equipped. my 'vert build went from about $47,800 to well over 52,000. Ugh. what's happening?

I don't know if it's higher than last year 'cause I just got interested a couple of months ago but, I will tell you this....

There's been a sea change in the gap between MSRP and invoice. Used to be 9-9.5%. Now that everybody can see it on the Internet, the OEs have cut it to half of that and must be funneling profit to the dealer's elsewhere. "Invoice price" is no longer a great deal.

I am currently shopping a factory order for a 2SS 'Vert. My spec is MSRP of $47,470. Also considering SSE. I've not had too much trouble getting to $1000 below invoice on the new car only. The problem is the trade. The dealers all want a guaranteed $2-3000 profit on any trade (I.e., "auction") Market must be soft for trades. I don't know how you get to $52,000 on a 2SS Vert.

I got my 2012 1 SS ordered in the spring of 2011 for $36520. Only option was an automatic. I just priced out the same 2014 and the sticker was about 3 grand higher than my original car. Don't know what is going on but the delivery charge and special paint color is higher. Was thinking of upgrading since the 14's have better tops.

My current car that I ordered after the first one was bought back only has an auto, Crystal Red, and connectivity package.

From the Chevy Website, I got $41,130(includes $500 cash back) MSRP. This was only selecting the automatic transmission for the 1SS and the CRT color.
That's about a $4500 price difference from 2012.

My dealer warned me of that. He told me that new car prices always go up substantially in the new calender year. I guess he was right.

FYI, I went to the Chevy build your own website and priced out the coupe that I'm going to get and there wasn't any change in price since earlier in the '14 MY. I'm wondering if the price increase is only affecting the convertibles.

Probably it's to pay for all the replacement tops on the 11-12 convertibles...
