ALERT! - Black Boxes Becoming More Common in Cars
I usually try and not get on a soap box, but being in the technology industry all my life, I know this is coming in some level. On Star, for better or worse, is a Ver 1.0 of this. All of us should take note....

I don't mean to be mean, but this surprises you how? Hate to say it fellas, but with the technology age, they are going to know every little thing you do. Probably within the next 5 to 10 years(that's if they don't already). Harsh reality I know.

Many cars record the car's conditions already, from 30 seconds to a minute worth. Its for when an accident occurs, you (police/accident investigators) can see how fast it was going, and when if any brakes or steering input was applied.
Besides, who cares who's watching me? Let em stare!

This technology has been out for a long time now. Nothing surprising. What about ONSTAR? Thank F1 racing for all these technological advances. They are so picky on what the car is doing that they probably sensor the sensors?

That article is ridiculous. I think the point of a black box is to show what happens in an accident. Storing 6 months worth of driving data is not necessary to achieve that goal.

Eventually there will be big money in disabling these things! Sounds like a business opportunity to me!

It's a choice between liberty and tyranny, if we keep voting for big government politicians we're going to get the latter. It's just that simple.
Fox News is one of the most reliable sources of news; just because they don't carry water for the democrat party doesn't make them inaccurate. |

Many cars already have black boxes that record key parameters for the last 6 seconds of operation. Throttle position, speed, etc. It requires a subpoena to get it as I understand.
OnStar is completely different. OnStar has so many privacey shields you wouldn't believe it. So don't buy into the aluminum hat paranoid patrol. No service will servive if your privacy isn't maintained. They are in business for the long haul so giving away any information on you isn't in the long term best interest of OnStar.
