Well, that is not even the same engine they are talking about here.

The SS Camaro uses the LT1 V8 engine.

When I change the oil on my 50th SS, I let the warm engine drain for about 30 minutes. I pour in 10 qts, then drive it. The next mourning I check it after setting all night and it is always half way up on the dipstick.

Thanks.

I've been changing my oil on every car I've ever owned and always put close to the recommended amount in and then fill slowly until the dipstick reaches the appropriate level.

It took all 10 quarts to read in the hash marks. After a few hours I checked again. Had to add another quart. Waited until the next day and checked again just to make sure. Needed a half quart more to reach the top of the hash mark.

No idea. Whatever, it reads full now, not over and not under. Just curious if anyone else experienced this.

I just did my first oil change last night at 979 miles.
The dip stick read full at the top of the hash marks before changing. Drained the oil and changed the filter. New PF-64 and two 5 qt jugs of Mobil 1 5w30 for the 10 quarts.
Drained the old oil into the empty oil jugs and they both were full. Checked the dip stick and it's "low". When I say low, I mean it was at the top of the hash marks before the change, and now it's in the middle.

I let it sit 15 minutes, one hour, two hours, and finally over night....still the same.

I took out 10 quarts, and put in 10 quarts, but the level is about a quart lower than before.

While I'm out tonight I pick up a quart and throw it in for good luck.

Oh yeah, I also threw in a magnetic drain plug.

My 2ss took just over 11 quarts to get the reading to half way up the indicated range. The first 2 times i personally changed the oil it took just over 10 quarts. I use the Mobil1 M1-113 .

Just changed mine also. Put in 10 quarts and was down just a little. Not like it's going to hurt the motor with 2.5 gallons of oil already in it. I'm not going to add anymore.

Yeah, I freaked out about adding the 11.5 quarts, so I drained it all (flush lol) and started over. Put in 10 qts and called it good. Reads just below the full mark. Good enough. As long as it's in the hash marks it's good. If i took it to the track i would top it off.

For some reason, this is the most difficult engine I've ever dealt with to change the oil. Wait 2 hours to check the oil, really? Yet the manual recommends checking the level at each gas fill up. Yup, just going to wait here for 2 hours... lol

Good call. 11.5 quarts seems like trouble. Just as long as your in the hash marks your good

Perhaps OP had a situation where the oil containers were slightly under filled? I mean, 10% isn't much, but that equals an extra quart.

No idea. I think maybe it was partially due to the high capacity oil filter and who knows, could have been under filled containers.

Could be a variance with dipstick length and dipstick tube?
