Unfortunatly alot of the futuristicness probably will be lost on the final production :( It seems that has happened to alot of the cars

Got to be honest. I like that. I like it *alot*. Its a shame it will never be built. Reading the article, it says that car will be used for Mazda's new "design language." That pretty much means you'll see watered down versions of it on all future models. A shame...because I want THAT car, not something that looks like it.

Looks like a copy of Infiniti if you ask me. Infiniti also said that their Infiniti Essence concept car design language will filter down to all models. I put my faith in Infiniti for the better execution. Mazda seem to lose something in translation.

Took a closer look at the autoblog pics, and I must say it is a beautiful car, but...
1) The concept car is a luxury car, and Mazda is not a luxury brand. I expect the production model to look hideous by comparison. Once you take out the Recaro seats, the leather wrapped dash and the expensive trim and the fancy flip console the interior will look drab. 2) The exterior is so complex, it's absolutely certain that the production model if it even attempts to look similar will look like shite. Take a look at the current Mazda3s - at one point they were a concept car just like this Shinaki but once in production, with the restraints of production costs, it will end up a mess of black plastic. 3) This car also looks fabulous because of the sports car stance (see how low it is), the hyper-expensive sports car tires and the sports car rims - all things that will be missing from the production model. If you look at how high the current Mazda6 sits off the ground, you'll get an idea of how pedestrian the production model is going to look like. I maintain that Infiniti's next gen will be the one to look out for because it is in the right class to look and feel expensive like this kind of car needs to be. Mazda will fail if it tries to make a car like the Shinaki because it will look poorly executed - they would be better served with something more conservative so they can spend more money making it look better quality (eg. look at the current Sonata). |
