Acitivating Onstar

OK I have contacted onstar to activate it so I can track my vehicle I actually called several times (4) and talk to defferant people all of them are telling me that it is impossible to activate it.

So my dealer also tried and they said that they need an active connection with the car to activate it.

How is people activating it, This is driving me crazy.

Tell the dealer to keep calling them. Mine was activated with no problem. The car May need to be started (moved) in order for the satellite to make contact with car. It will eventually connect.

I purchased my car before it arrived, and they gave me customer # when i asked for it. It is required to be activated when you purchase car.

The dealer can activate the account via the internet and logging into theif Onstar dealer account,no need to hit the blue button in the car.

My dealer did the same thing, activated on his computer. Tracked my car for two weeks via onstar.

So funny how some dealers are just clueless. All the accounts are linked together, XM, Onstar, etc. Once it is activated you receive an e-mail, you can go through the steps to setup a Chevy owner account, and has links to Onstar...I would just be persistant with them.

Sometimes the fly in the ointment:

Remember he needs to report it sold, when he does it. That means the warranty is ticking. So for two or three weeks or months you're using up your warranty. Just an FYI , you may be willing to do that. Other dealers will want you to completely fund the car before they'll report it sold. Meaning all the paperwork done, and you own the car.

Onstar/XM

My car will be here in a couple of weeks and I plan on not opting for the Onstar or XM free trial, let alone paying for the subscriptions when the free trial is up. I’ve heard too many horror stories about how both companies hound you to death to get you to subscribe when the free trial is up. Want nothing to do with that, let alone what Onstar is capable of as far as information gathering is concerned. Will they still be able to monitor my every move even if I decline having anything to do with them? I think I know the answer to that question but I’d be interested to hear what you all have to say. Am I a little too cautious or, by not even having anything to do with them from the get go, will I be better off in the long run. Comments/Suggestions. Thanks.
