yep...500 pounds is NOT happening. Through the use of a smaller size and the Alpha chasis I can easily see 200 pounds and up to 300, but that could be a bit stretch. That said, I think we have a nice chance at getting under Mustang GT weight. Even just 200lbs would put it right at or maybe a hair under the GT. In the end, I think the weights between the Camaro and Mustang are going to be pretty similar, but I think Camaro has a good chance at being the lighter car this time around.

The thought of a sub 3,700 pound Camaro SS should be pretty exciting news for us...it is for me.

So with that in mind, i still think we are looking at a good possibility of the 4 cylinder and V6 versions coming in the 3,400 to 3,500 lbs range.

Damn I can't wait to start seeing more info come leaking in.

comfort is a huge factor. Think about how vehicles today are equipped and the public's expectation of what a decently optioned car or truck is.

Now think about what that meant in the 80s or 90s. Decently optioned meant you had a radio with cassette or CD, A/C, and power windows. Forget the saftety or stiff chassis stuff.

Yep true- I mean the Camaro is featured in all transformers movies & looks so cool. People love to see it & Camaro is known all over the world . The 5th gen Camaro - many people in Australia & other RHD countries was hoping it would be in RHD but GM scrap the plan. Ford is offering the Mustang in RHD. I know GM will want to compete with the mustang. but if GM is only concentrating only for LHD markets. We can't blame GM because its risky & real expensive for them to offer the cars for small RHD market.

The car will weigh 400-600 pounds lighter but the wheelbase will be shorter. It would take retooling to add to the wheelbase as this will be the Alpha chassis but this is disappointing. The weight reduction should have been complemented with a wider wheelbase. I can't notice anything outside what has already been mentioned but the January unveiling will end all our speculation. I currently own a very modified 1989 Camaro which is both relatively light and has a wide wheelbase which provides, to me, no compromise and the ultimate driving experience.

That will only happen if you compare a 4 cylinder turbo to the current SS with a V8 and you are the first I think to even suggest 600 pounds. That would mean an SS at 3,300 pounds. That isn't going to happen.

First of all you are suggesting that a V8 Camaro can weigh LESS than a C7 Corvette. And the C7 Corvette as we know has an aluminum frame and a good amount of carbon fiber and is a much smaller car that seats only 2.

All anyone has to do is take the weight of the ATS coupe with a V6 and then add the mass difference to get from a V6 Camaro to a V8 Camaro.

I hope everyone remembers that the HP and torque difference from the 270 HP 4 cylinder/330 HP 6 cylinder to the V8 drives much heavier driveline parts. A heavier engine, a heavier transmission and a heavier rear axle.

Now add on the weight of bigger wheels and bigger brakes.

Add all of that stuff and you are around 200 plus pounds, which I think is supported by the weight difference between a 1LT and a 1SS.

So whatever you think a base Camaro weighs, you need to add 250 to 300 pounds to get to an SS.

Now will it be nice if the base coupe weighs in around 3,400 pounds or even less? You bet. It will improve the drivability and FE of the car and thus make, as I've been suggesting all along, a GREAT coupe that can compete with the crappy little FWD coupes from other OEMs.

BUT, the car we mostly care about, the car that will have to win all the magazine comparos isn't a base coupe, it will be the SS and 1LE. And those will likely be closer to 3,650 to 3,700 pounds.

And that will be a simply awesome car.

If they can get the 1LE in at 3,700 lbs or less, that would be awesome. Weighing the same as the GT with, hopefully, a huge advantage in power and torque should let the Camaro easily beat the Mustang in most performance categories.

Hey it looks like these prototypes are smaller which means lighter. And after the surprise of the Z06 price maybe the weight of the 6th Gen will be an equal surprise.

That being said it still has to be a Camaro and that means affordable. If they spend so much money making it way incredibly light then it goes well over $30,000 base and that will hurt sales. And that hurts Camaro in the long run.

It will be lighter, much lighter. Just not likely 4 to 600 pounds lighter.

Is it me or do the wheels and tires seem small. They fill the wheel wells but seem small to me. May just be the camo playing tricks on the proportions.

Well, I hope the 6th gen weight won't be a surprise like the Z06s weight because that was surprisingly high.

I'm hoping the SS is between 3,650 and 3,700.

I didn't know that.Although, I see camaro photos with RHD or just a "render". I making a Roblox 2016 Camaro the best i can by looking at the photo under the plastic. In my chassis ,i did not realize that it was RHD and the driver seat was in the opposite direction. So,i have fixed my car and it is still RHD.But,i all i had to do is move and remove (Move again not delete) the seat,it was easy I didn't not know that and thank for informing me
thanks.
