Radar detectors..

I want to buy one, (knock on wood, I've never been pulled over) perhaps because my first car was a toyota avalon . Well now i have a Camaro, and to me it seems i should be smart and buy a radar detector. I know there is alot of them but most of them are crap and give you false alarms. Anyone know any good ones? my budget is at least 350$ Thanks!

I too, have been interested in purchasing one (though illegal to use in Virginia, I get into Maryland and DC often enough to make it a worthwhile "toy").

I saw an ad in the May issue of Road & Track yesterday and just started my research on the Escort 9500ix, which is their newest product (~$500). Here's a brief description:

"The GPS-powered PASSPORT 9500ix provides the best long-range protection against every known radar and laser gun in use in North America, but also incorporates GPS accuracy to silence each and every false alert. It is by far the most intelligent, fully automatic radar and laser detector ever designed. You drive. It learns. End of story. The PASSPORT 9500ix also comes pre-loaded with thousands of safety camera locations, including red light and speed-based cameras throughout North America. You can also download updates, back up your data, and stay on top of new threats directly from Escort's website. Location Database Updates and Detector Software Updates for the PASSPORT 9500ix require a Windows based computer."

Escort products are available through Amazon.com, Best Buy and even through Crutchfield, if memory serves me correctly.

Here are some websites to perhaps start your research into and comparisons of different radar detectors.

Use the search. This has been discussed over and over again.

X2, hashed and rehashed.
Buy a detector if it makes you feel good. In most cases, a detector will simply warn you to pull over. Speed of light is quicker than your right foot on the brake.
Just obey the law and save your money.

The two that most people like are the Valentine 1 and the Escort 9500ix. I have a V1 and contrary to what some people think it has saved me many a time and the only ticket I have gotten for speeding with it in the last 6 yrs was by a laser and there isn't much help there unless you get a laser scrambler. I will probably get an Escort this year due to the GPS function but may get a new V1 for the other car.. Both are great and like a lot of other things you will get people that swear by one or the other..

I like my V1 because it tells me from which direction the threat is coming. Although, I wish it had GPS like the escort.

Valentine One is the best. have had one for over 10 years in my work truck and works great. Bought the passport xi for the camaro and wish I would have got the V1. The passport goes off all the time without seeing a leo anywhere. sometimes it goes off the whole time im driving.

I have a passport x50 and a redline, both work great. Valentine one is great ! For the price the passport x50 is the way to go.
