I'm gonna stick with a stroked 283 for now, but always open to correction.

It indeed was a 327 block with a 283 crank. You're right. But what continues is the controversy over whether it was a standard 283 crank or one modded by GM just for the 302 ?. Different P.N. ??

The LT1 model is confusing having grown up in the era of the Gen II small-block LT1, 5.7 used in the 4th gen Camaro and late 4th gen Corvette, among others. I'm glad the modern "LT1" (engine) doesn't have an Optispark.
And the fact that there'a 1LT model, don't confuse it with LT1... which I think is dumb anyway, 1LT, 2LT, 1SS, 2SS. "I have a Camaro 2SS!" We're splitting hairs over leather seats and a few options, the car is an SS, or an LT. At least the exterior badges aren't 1SS, 2SS, etc. On former Camaros the 1LE was silent. No badging. Because that's the spirit of the model. I kind of wish GM would have called the V6 cars the Camaro Sport Coupe, with the LT1 just being an engine option, making it a V8 Sport Coupe. LT1 RS is kind of a mouthful. So is SS 1LE. GM made a beautiful thing complicated. Now get off my lawn! |

Nope. It was an over bored 283, or a de stroked 327(whichever way you want to look at it). Definitely not a stroked 283. 283’s never had a 4” bore. Look it up. And yes, I own a 302 in my 69 Z.

You jumped the gun. Go back a few posts before your last and you'll see that I said you were right. I assure you it was from memory and not some Google research so you'll just have to accept that we all make mistakes. |

This. Lol. I have a 1SS, and some would say I got the "poor man's SS" back in 2016 when I dropped the hammer.
But I got it when '17 was about to drop, and it was 40,500 with NPP exhaust, magnetic ride control, black, with blacked out badges and wheels, M6, a dealer discount of 20 percent to move it brand new. I payed 32k out the door. No complaints. Heck, some 2SS cars don't even have mag ride or the NPP exhaust. Having driven both, the mag ride Camaros are worth the 1695, I think it was, upgrade. Rides smooth as heck when I want and can stiffen it up when I please. So being "poor" isn't a bad thing at all. The LT1's are beautiful as well and a hell of a ride. Love em. Shame the Camaro will be no more till its EV counterpart comes out. Sad times. Last edited by Texas1ss; 01-25-2024 at 03:27 AM. |

I don’t get the point in ‘trim-shaming’ like a good percentage of people do. I went from a base 1LT with the only option being the v6 and A8 to my current. No regrets on either and I’d probably do it again or even be in the 1LT if it was still around but it’s living it’s new life out in Mexico (thanks for the random updates OnStar LOL)

Putting the sheet to use again, ~40% of 1SS/2SSs were optioned with MRC and ~72% of them with NPP (numbers will be lower with 2016-2019 data if we had it :L)

Damn thing just rides so smooth, though. I didn't option that on the car, but after having it don't know how I'd like the non MRC ride. |
