Curious to see what's under the hood of the blue test mule. Does GM have the right to use the IROC-Z name?

The 4.6L that was in the Mustang has been around since the early '90's and was in a bunch of different cars and trucks, they needed an updated version for the Mustang and other platforms.........so yes they have been working on a 4.6 replacement since well before the Camaro.

Besides the ponycars there is the US truck/suv segment and Australian performance market to worry about, plus the Vettes.
If the Mustang/Camaro weren't around these engines still would be.

No they can't use the IROC name nor should they, that is a dead racing series plus Dodge used the name on Daytonas after Chevy.
The series ended with Firebirds but, Pontiac never used the name.

Don't care to see any more 2012 Z/28 unless it is in my driveway.

Exactly. The Z-28 should be true to it's heritage. Something under 305 CI that stills runs a 12 second 1/4 mile will do nicely!!

The ZL1 is the designation for crazy HP car but is also associated with limited numbers. The SS is has traditionally been the moniker for the mass produced, high HP Camaros. This car should be called the SS3. When the 375HP 396 was offered as an option it was still badged as an SS. Buyers could chose a 325, 350 or 375HP version.

I see two Camaros and a silver Z28 Concept??? Is that what all the fuss is about? It def looks a lot different than the red and blue Camaro... I was hoping for more of a retro look but the 4 doors will come in handy i suppose. HAHA!

This Z is gonna be so bad!!!!

Personally, I think they underestimated how well the Camaro would sell and waited a year to release it when they shouldn't have.

Ford is much more performance driven with the Mustang than GM is with the Camaro, not the Corvette but, we aren't talking about the Vette.
They have factory installed gear options, dealer installed superchargers that don't kill your warranty, performance parts that actually add hp, and they don't take over a year to figure out a simple short-shifter.

The GT500 is a monster and the Boss 302 looks to be a road course beast.

Like I said, if the Z28 doesn't decimate the GT500 then GM is still #2 in the ponycar wars.

I'm still waiting for an explanation on how GM is #2. performance isn't all that matters when it comes to what position. look at the 4th gen camaro's. whooped up on that GT ass all the way up till the 2011 models. cobra's don't count. they aren't regular GT's. Sales are what matters. if the 4th gens sales weren't so poor the camaro wouldn't have went on hiatus.

since the camaro hit dealers lots it has out sold the mustang all but what 1 month? sorry the mustang is #2 right now. currently it's a drivers race on the track.

GM has just gotten back in the game. give them a few years and they'll develop a good aftermarket performance market.

someone is living in the past. the Z's heritage is that of the lower model camaro. . .if you go with the 4th gen. in the 80's it was just the V8 camaro. . .there hasn't always been an SS.

why limit the displacement of the Z28 when it's not taking part in the trans am series and doesn't have a displacement limitation? as long as the thing can corner just as good as it accelerates who cares how big the engine is. . .
