Sometimes I rev my ZL1 at stop lights just to make sure others don't confuse me with a Prius....

Another related, interesting link:
http://www.autoblog.com/2014/07/24/c...zler-tax-list/ Interestingly the city # on most of these cars are merely 1 mpg above the ZL1. We all know the hwy #'s are pipe-dreams unless the only time you drive your car is on the interstate. Also interesting is the comment that the mustang GT didn't make the list. And just how many mustang GTs do you think are out there that aren't modded to the extent that they get the same, or worse gas mileage than the stock ZL1. |

EPA classifies cars by interior volume. Passenger compartment and trunk combined. the Camaro is rated EPA INTERIOR VOLUME 93.0 cu.ft.

I don't really understand the logic behind articles like this.
The Camaro is not a compact car. It is, actually, a gigantic luxury platform that has been retrofit into a modern muscle car. It makes more sense to classify the Camaro as a luxury vehicle than a compact. It is essentially an Australian Cadillac. But that's just a minor gripe. The real problem is rating high-end sports cars by fuel economy. People are not buying these vehicles for fuel efficiency. They are buying them for performance. And unlike many of the cars in that article, the Camaro excels at "every day performance." You probably can't daily drive an Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari or Rolls Royce. I don't think you'll want to pull into the ACME parking lot with that and park next to a minivan full of a mom and three screaming kids. The ZL1 can pick up your groceries. Slap a set of Gmax's on it and it'll pick up your groceries in 6 inches of snow. I may have an SS, but it's essentially the same vehicle. We got 10 inches of snow last week and my alley was entirely unplowed. I pulled out of my driveway and drove the 100 yards uphill through the unplowed alley with no issue through the 10 inches of fresh snow. The car laughed at it. That kind of versatility is impressive. I am with Joshua Kennon when it comes to fuel economy. http://www.joshuakennon.com/if-the-p...oing-it-wrong/ The difference between 15mpg and 30mpg is $20 a week. Maybe $30, tops. If $20-30 a week is blowing your budget, you need to seriously sit back and evaluate your lifestyle and reassess your finances. If you are buying a $60,000 high horsepower vehicle and gas prices are breaking the budget, you are, quite frankly, an idiot.

The article calls out others like the Hellcat and dings the "Big 3". These cars are all such low volume. What the hell are they whining about?

The size class for cars is based on interior passenger and cargo volumes as described below. The size class for trucks is defined by the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), which is the weight of the vehicle and its carrying capacity. Fuel economy regulations do not apply to heavy-duty vehicles, so they are not tested. See Which Vehicles Are Tested for more information on these vehicles.
Vehicle Size Classes Used in the Fuel Economy Guide CARS Class Passenger & Cargo Volume (Cu. Ft.) Two-Seaters Any (cars designed to seat only two adults) Sedans Minicompact < 85 Subcompact 85 to 99 Compact 100 to 109 Mid-Size 110 to 119 Large 120 or more Station Wagons Small < 130 Mid-Size 130 to 159 Large 160 or more

I think there are some pretty impressive cars in the "worst" list.

I am sure they use this formula because it provides the government the highest revenue. They need to come up with a better formula that takes into account weight etc.
