Longtube Headers with no tune

I recently got Longtube headers (catless) installed for my SS and was wondering what are the bad effects with running LT Headers without a tune. I don't wanna void my power train warranty by tuning. Obviously I won't be getting the full performance without a dyno tune. (Mainly got them because they sound awesome) But any input would be appreciated!

I have a Bully Dog GT tuner to turn the cells off. Haven't used the tuner to put an actual tune on because like I said I don't want my power train warranty voided, but got it to 1) Diagnose and clear cels. 2) The Bully Dog GT tuner can also be used as a gauge to monitor stuff....I just didn't know if LT's without a dyno tune could mess up my engine.

I dont know for sure, I can only talk about my experience .
I ran with LT w/cats for about 2-3 months with no tune before my cam because I didnt want to tune twice. It ran fine the whole and i got no CEL.

Yep, you'll run lean... possibly causing your car to shutter a bit at WOT. I don't think you'll get any knocking, but if you do you'll want to do something about that quick. Also, yes - codes, and you can clear them, but they will come back without a tune.

Here in Louisiana, they do car inspections through the OBD II connector. If you turn a check engine light off, the code is still in the computer. It will say the system is busy and they will give you a rejection sticker, good for 30 days, for you to fix the issue.

As far as the engine goes, I think the car would run a little leaner. These cars run rich from the factory.

I always heard that if anything I would run a little rich? But that's why I asked what I asked so I don't know .....and in Florida we don't have inspections (Thank God)

You need to tune it to get the full benefits of the headers. If you don't you leave good whp on the table.

I ran Pumpkin for 2 years after the ARH LT's before I tuned it. Just live with the check engine light. Pumpkin ran rich with the Vararam and LT's before the Rhino tune.

The most common CEL codes is what you should learn about. delayed response from the front o2s being moved back ( just that can be programmed out to not show a CEL), and the rear o2s should be just deleted in the tune and that's the most common as various codes can show from the rear o2s. You can get canned tunes for performance mods of course, yet your long tubes themselves could be frowned apon as voiding the warranty by a unscrupulous dealer. And yes a dyno tune is best but even more worth the price with more mods. You 5yr drivetrain warranty is most likely never going to be tested, its all up to you to decide.

Nope lean.. more air capacity at that point than fuel introduced with the stock tune..
