Theres lots of threads out there discussing this, so ill just summarize. I have first hand exp too... If you have the shudder, good idea to do the flush first. You have a 50/50 chance of it returning at some point. When it does, you need a new converter. There are some tuning options that will help, but its not a guarantee. The flush is a good idea regardless.

The problem with the original fluid is that it was hygroscopic, meaning it attracted water. This caused uneven engagement of clutch surfaces, with adequately lubricated areas right next to essentially unlubricated areas. You end up with two faces of sandpaper rather than two smooth surfaces. All the new fluid in the world isn't going to fix that. https://gm-techlink.com/?p=11127 |

Hey guys,
I know this is an old topic but I felt the need to thank the OP for his finding! I just got a 16' Camaro SS imported to the EU (and with no chevy dealership in the country I'm currently living :/ ). I thought the car was gonna be a problem with barely 40K miles on it but after buying an MPVI3 and reprogrammed my slip tables. The shuddering is now gone! However, I don't know if it's placebo or what but I do feel like the car wants to shudder but can't lol. I'm also currently wondering if I should disable the V4 mode A.K.A DoD. I did it on my 11' SS back in the days and it was much better but since I'm new to the 6th gen.. I'm not sure if i'm gonna do it yet. What do yall think ? |

Well, there are several ways to look at this.
It's kind of placebo in the sense that it would shudder if it were still programmed to allow slip, but it isn't and the TCC locks up with full pressure. If the clutch has enough friction material left, it's unlikely to ever shudder, because it won't lose any extra material due to quick repeated lock/unlock sequences aka shudder (beyond normal clutch wear, of course, which means many, many miles, probably 100,000+). And it is not placebo in the sense that zeroing out the slip tables did actually fix the problem. You may feel that the transmission is a bit less smooth, but who cares, it's a Camaro after all. Since you have no GM dealership in your country, I would do everything I can to make sure the engine won't need major repairs, and a non-negligible percentage of AFM lifters fail after active use, so I would definitely tune out AFM / DOD. You will lose a small amount of fuel economy, but IMO it's worth it if that means you dodged the lifter bullet.
