I had used Amsoil gear lube in everything I owned for decades. The Camaro rejected it by making all kinds of noise. GM lube cured all problems. Go figger. It’s a GM car. Take that for what it’s worth.

Amsoil is what I've used twice now in my trans and diff. The first time I changed it out at 50k from GM to Amsoil and Amsoil again now at 140k.

fixed differential humming noise

I dumped out the Valvoline oil and replaced the differential oil with the factory recommended oil and additive. After driving around for 2 minutes, the differential box is quite as "a mouse". The total cost of oil and additive is $28 from ebay. I tried to save money by buying non-OEM stuff, but it ended up costing me more. Lesson learn... There are somethings that can't be had for cheap. Thanks all for the replies!

Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-90 in my diff. My car is so loud that I don't think I would even hear any diff noise, so that may be an issue lol.

I did NOT use any additional friction modifier with the Amsoil since everyone I read that used it on our diffs said it's not needed.

I'm fixing to change mine as well with the oem recommended fluids . Question I have is , capacities chart says 1 quart . So is it one quart total , or 1 qt. fluid and 4 oz. additive which would make 36 oz. ? Thanks for the help .

The manual says 1 quartz of fluid and 3.3oz of additive. I bough a 4oz bottle of additive and 1 quartz of differential oil. I put the whole bottle of additive in first. Then I filled up the box with differential oil until the oil drips out from the filler hole. Make sure that you jack up your car level. Once the oil is dripping out, it's full. You can close the filler plug.

Check out my jack stand on youtube here. It's the safest jack stand you can get.

x2, just start with the additive and then add fluid until it comes out the fill hole. Or add half a bottle of fluid THEN throw the full additive bottle in and then finish topping off. Can never tell exactly how much it will take, but you want to make sure you get all of the additive in.
