probably true! My 2016 is a late build - May 2016 because it is a convertible - I think those started mid year production. Very solid car with no issues like this at all. But then again - a few things like rear end noise is normal and just needs a fluid refresh to solve it. In the old days we used to change fluids in drivetrain in 1-2K miles. That seems to still be best practice at least for the diff used in our cars. I changed trans fluid too just to be on the safe side.

Very few issues on my side, some of them were fixed under warranty. I'm a happy '16 Camaro SS M6T owner, no regrets:
1. Front black wheels paint had orange peel. They were repainted by dealer. 2. Misaligned hood. Dealer paid half of repair. 3. Pandora/android connect not working. Somehow it started connecting by bluetooth.

on #5 i had the same thing on my gran prix and a gas pedal problem took it to the dealer it was gonna cost $3000.00 to fix , car was worth only $4000.00 so i bought my Camaro.
seriously go to the dealer and get it checked before you get in a accident could be anything.
