Lets Talk Ethanol

Anyone on here has switched to E85? My '13 SS is currently bone stock, and I will soon be switching to E85. Will my factory injectors be enough to handle the added fuel, or will I need to upgrade them along with the factory fuel pump?

I coulda sworn that the e85 eats away at the factory fuel pump lines and youll have to replace them. I could be wrong

First I wouldn't do this and second I have heard that E85 is hard on seals and any rubber it comes in contact with.

I have a Tahoe rated for E85 and I have never used the stuff.

Everyone says that ethanol decreases mpg and that's both true and not. It doesn't decrease mpg but you instead get less out of it. I believe for ethanol to do the same amount of work regular gas does you need 30% more of it. For that reason you will go through it quicker

It is cheaper by us, but it will not make any more power or torque. Alcohol also tends to be a bit corrosive to internals. I would avoid it. Not worth the $.20 per gallon savings guys!

$0.80 per gallon cheaper here. If you do a conversion or your car is made for it, it is definitely worth it, even if you lose 2-3 mpgs.

My other car is a 2005 Dodge SRT4. Back in 09 I was the 2nd SRT4 in South FL that I know of to switch to E85. Back then ethanol was just being descovered and people were sceptical of it. Once I switched to it I have never looked back. And so have many others switched and become instant fans of E85. 5 years later, my SRT4 is still running strong on ethanol and never will I switch back to pump gas.

The thing with ethanol is, it burns 4 times more than premium pump gas. The added octane rating also allows you to increase timing when you tune the vehicle, therefore increasing power.

Within a week or so I will retune my SS on E85 and I will keep you guys posted on any increase in power.

Most modern cars have seals, gaskets, rubber etc that doesnt get eaten away by ethanol.

Put fuel with ethanol in your weed eater, and its a different story, your fuel lines will be gone in a few weeks.

Are you seriously putting in e85? Our cars are NOT designed for this. Your asking for trouble.

I can tell most of you have no clue of the power you can gain out of e85

I'm not disagreeing with that...the problem is injectors...fuel lines...fuel pump....will have big problems after time with the e85
