Video of intake valves after 53k miles (no catch can)
I have a 6th gen SS, and I couldn't find many pictures of carbon buildup on intake valves to see if a catch can was really necessary. I was installing the LT2 manifold so I figured I would check and show you guys. Here you go:

Not bad for 53k.
Top tier fuel? Brand and octane? Daily driver? Oil brand and weights? |

I don’t think fuel has anything to do with carbon build up being this is DI.
It would matter if it were port injected. |

Driving style?
1-5, where 1= I drive it like there’s an egg under the gas pedal and 5= I drive it like I stole it. |

Thx for the vid... Doesn't look bad to me. Good to know, I have just under 45k on mine.

Not surprising, but good info.
BTW, for those that don't know, the LT1 does have a "catch can", it just drains the trapped and condensed vapor back into the crankcase. I suspect that's why they upped the amount of oil in the motor to 10 friggin quarts. Dilution. |

The ten quarts is so that there won’t be oil starvation on the track since GM couldn’t fit the dry sump tanks from the vette in the Camaro. I find the video the op posted to be very encouraging and what I expected them to look like based on other pictures people showed of their intake valves. I’m going to continue not to run a separate catch can. |

Interesting to see the valve after this many miles. The LT1 has been in production since 2014 so there are plenty out in the world. I haven't seen one yet with excessive valve coking

I bought the car at 48k miles so I can't attest to the driving style. I know all oil changes were done at Chevy so I'm assuming OEM fluid was always used.
I actually did get a catch can before looking at the valves because I am putting on bolt ons, but I just wanted to show people it probably isn't something to worry about for a stock car. |

Nice! Looks good! I installed a catch can at 1k or so miles as I plan to keep the car.. forever? If just planning to drive and trade out in a few years I wouldn't of bothered, lol.

That's actually pretty good, I wonder if that's as bad as it will get (meaning once it gets to that point it just kinda stays like that)
