LS3 heats up very quickly
i have a <1 mile commute to work every morning. i live in the city so it takes between 5-10 minutes on average. it's been ~40 degrees here lately and my car warms up super fast! like about 30-45 seconds after i start the car i am feeling heat coming out of the vents at a pretty steady pace. though the oil isn't completely warmed up, the engine is fully warmed by the time i make it to work.
that's pretty awesome anyway. i just remember it took the ls1 in my Z28 at least 5 minutes until you started feeling any heat whatsoever from the vents. anyone notice this? |

I've noticed the same. In fact, I noticed it because the engine temp gauge pops up real quick - I use that to tell me when the oil temp is high enough that it's safe to start driving (my drive starts out directly onto highway speeds).
Probably the fastest I've seen any vehicle come up to temp. I'm guessing that's by design. |

I've noticed this too. Also, come home and temp outside in the mid 30s, go back out to the car about two hours later, and the temp gauge is still at the first hash mark after startup. So it stays warm too.

That's because it's a massive engine.

Aluminum block. It takes an iron block twice as long to get any heat to the heater.

My 2LT does the same thing. My commute is just under 2 miles and I've got loads of heat. And once I arrive, the bun warmers have me very toasty!!

This! My previous car with an iron block took a while to actually warm up the oil even though it only took 5 quarts. But the heater did warm up fast though! Just not the oil. |

Can't say I agree. Maybe mine's defective, but by the time my 5 minute drive to work is up, I'm still not feeling very warm air. It's about 35F here.
