Yes. Watch it and wait. I'm guessing it will be fine. Keeping that close an eye on your engine can only be a good thing.

Mine seemed like it was burning 1/2 qt in 700 miles, but now it hasn't changed in the last 1000 miles. It was actually reading higher the other day. Lol.

hmm. I never used any noticeable amount of oil during break in or since.

Has anyone been noticing oil consumption still? Even after 3 or 4000 miles I still noticed burning a 1/2 quart every 1000 or so. I am at 5,000 now. I guess I should start recording it. Do you burn more when you run on the track?

you would think as hard as I have run my car with at least 75 passes at the drag strip and 14 (25 min) sessions at VIR that it would have burned or used oil. My car has never required a drop of additional oil between changes. I am amazed as well and would have been perfectly happy if it had used a quart here or there...never.

I bought a 2013 Gt Mustang 5.0 before this ZL1 and it burnt a lot of oil in the first 3000 miles and then it started to slow down, I don't know why it slowed down. I was not happy about it at all. I guess this is a good reminder for me to check the oil in my ZL1 now which has 4k miles on it. Right now it as at the dealership, I will post the level when I get it back on weds hopefully. I wont be happy if its low either. I know the engines have some blow by but I thought engine tolerates were better with the new engines.

I just checked the oil again. I am at 5,100. Over the last 2,000 miles it lost 1/2 qt. Previous to that it had lost 1 qt in 2,000. So I think its slowing down. Rings might be seating better. Catch can has only picked up 6 oz or so.

Differs from car to car, as was said. This is true regardless of make, though FI cars tend to be more likely to burn/blow by than N/A motors (excepting Wankels and other rotaries). Monitor it, as was said. The engine parts are still just getting to know each other.

I'll check my catch can and check the dipstick tonight, but I didn't burn any oil at all during factory-recommended break-in. I know there's a half cup in the can, but was not in a place I could responsibly dispose of it when I checked.

Oil was changed (complimentary at dealer) at ~1500 miles. Catch can installed immediately after. Now at ~4670 miles.

I hope I remember to post, tonight.

I have owned every hot cars Chevy Evermade going back to the 60s. To me running a half quart of oil in 1500 miles Is just not acceptable and I think I know what's coming with this engine. I broke the car in as recommended and did not do any fussing around of any sort of. My question is: can you at this point run a compression test on each cylinder And tell if the rings are seated in each cylinder properly? Are there any optics that you can use the stuff down the spark plug hole to visualize the cylinder? In short is there anything I can do except Drive and watch well consumption.? Any answers would be much appreciated. The only thing I won't do is fuss around with the weight of the oil.

I know how stinky GM is about oil burning and replacing things. I realize that they will tell me after 1/2 quart is nothing and wait until you get down to 500 miles per quart. This is just another example of GM type crap. FYI I added dye to the oil as they do at the dealership so nI can spot any other leaks (none) and to be able to read the dipstick more easily(the dipstick on this car is a issue for a entire new thread---with its two dinky rivets)

Again I realize One half quart at 1500 miles is not a big deal but for those of you who are familiar with GM engines you know what's coming.
...FWIW. I Changed my oil at around 1,500. Prior to doing so I noticed the oil was down on the stick. It was hard to tell exactly how much, but I guestimated a half a quart. I did the change myself, installed the catch can at the same time as well as a CAI. I have about 1,900 miles and change on it and have noticed no reduction on the stick oil level, or any oil in the catch can. Go figure....either it was break in loss, or a low level from the factory.

So, I checked the oil. Dead between the two dots on the stick. That's 3,000 miles. And here's what was in the can:

As I said before, not concerned.
