Gen 6 Sound Tube - Another Look - V2

Chevrolet "FIND NEW ROADS™ TRIP" tour arrived in Raleigh at the PNC Arena this evening (Wednesday). Only a few minutes from where I work.
Large staff from Chevy was present. There was a Designer and an Engineer available to provide insight on the Gen 6. Good bunch of Camaros plus one each of the other all new Chevy 2016 models.

Here are some details on the Version 2 "Final" version of the Sound Tube that is in both the V6 and V8 Camaro on display today. The tube is now black in color and more polished compared with the prototype version I saw at Camarofest (August Camarofest tube was white and made of different materials).

Picture 1 below shows the first section of the black sound tube where it starts at the airtube fitting and then makes a right angle turn dropping straight down to a plastic "Trumpet".

Picture 2 below shows the ribbed plastic tube that runs out the other side of the trumpet (near right side of pic) and heads back toward the firewall ... then below the strut tower brace ... then at the very end at far left in the picture it shows where the ribbed tube connects to the firewall.

A more complete (corrected) explanation was given about the function of this final version of the air tube. The air tube trumpet contains a device that blocks direct airflow but allows sound to travel through. The sound level is determined solely by how much revving the engine is doing. Chevy staff mentioned it was added to provide the driver a more balanced noise level between the exhaust and what was heard from the engine compartment.

Did sound real nice when the V8 was revved way up.
Ron

p.s. Chevy gave out free stuff: Camaro Hat, Brochure, two Carolina Hurricanes tickets, Box Dinner :-)

I can see someone taking their Camaro in for service, with a complaint

Maybe my sound tube is kinked...

^ I bet you're a blast at parties.

Sound tube is kinda neat, I've always liked the intake noise, but even with a CAI, the exhaust always overpowers it. It will be interesting to hear.

I think it's a cool idea. I'm curious what it sounds like.

Sure - here you go, no new info in brochure (hope it is ok to hijack my own thread) ...

This transport truck was out in parking lot .. needs some photoshop work to avoid a ticket!

Back to the sound tube. Chevy designers and engineers put a lot of work in to getting just the right sound they think most folks would enjoy
- as mentioned they tried to strike a balance with exhaust sound front to back. For the occasional person that does not want this it could be plugged very easily in a couple of minutes with no ill affect.

I would be tossing the engine 'beauty' cover too, & underhood matting,
if it has it...

Well that would help with the intake sound.

Yeah the sound tube thing is pretty stupid. I'll be tearing the whole thing out the day I take my car home. GM seriously wasted engineering time and materials on this feature?

Kinda lame a** crap is that? $5.00 in plastic hoses from Home Depot and what is essentially a spit valve for a trumpet.

Wait, there's people who love this idea - who wants to buy mine for $500.00?

An aftermarket intake will most likely require this to be removed. The bigger question is, if removed is it connected to any smog or sensors etc...

Is the performance intake GM mentions equal to an aftermarket CAI?
