V6 1LE

From Top Speed-

Edit:
Al Oppenheiser, the chief engineer for Camaro, says the V-6 1LE produces track times at the Willow Springs Raceway comparable with the fifth-generation SS – a car equipped with the 6.2-liter LS3 V-8. Impressive.

How do you think the 5 gen SS guys feel about this.

It means 5th gen V8, as in SS, not SS 1LE...

The live interview I heard did not say that. He said 5th generation V8, as in regular SS. Common sense will tell you the V6 1LE will not match up with a 5th generation SS 1LE on the track. There is like a 100 hp difference...

I'm thinking the new platform and v6 1le will do just as it says. Comparable to the fifth gen 1le. either way still impressive.

"Top Speed" got their facts wrong.

It was repeated multiple times at the preview event we were at that it puts up track times as fast as the 5th gen SS...NOT the SS/1LE. That's still very, very fast. Very impressive.

From what I gathered at willow springs

5th gen ss .. Couldn't find but do see the SS sedan at 1:25.7
5th gen 1le 1:22.7

6th gen SS - can't find a time
6th gen SS 1le - says three seconds faster then 6th gen SS

Do you think a 5th gen SS is on par with the SS sedan at 1:25.7 ?

I'll be posting times as I see them. Should be interesting

Pretty interesting from this Automobile article. So the 2016 V6's will be the one with the "old oiling system".

3. The V-6 engine’s redesigned oiling system will be used on other General Motors models. The Camaro’s V-6 engine, which is all new for 2016, is used in other GM models, but none of those cars needs to worry about pulling 0.97g on a road course. A V-6 1LE package forced Camaro engineers to reimagine the engine’s oiling system, and their fix will now be standard for the engine, regardless of application.
