Winter or AllSeason tires - I live in New Jersey
Hi guys. Well First off all I would like to thank everybody in the forum. You guys rock!!. Now, to the point. I drive my '13 BRM Camaro RS M6 daily and love every minute of it and now that winter is coming I was wondering if you guys can help me decide what kind of tires I should get. I live in New Jersey and snowing here is not as bad but sometimes it can hit hard. my question is should I get Winter tires like the Pirelli Scorpion or a set of all season like the Toyo Proxes.
Thanks again guys PS. I am attaching a pic. Hope it shows!! |

I strongly recommend dedicated winter tires. I commute daily to NYC, and when it came down last year, I wish I had a set of snow tires. I picked up a set of steelies, and bought these bad boys. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....S&autoModClar= . They are a performance set, so your braking, and handling will not suffer at all.

I got by for the last two winters in the north Philly suburbs with my P-Zeros. Wasn't able to drive for about 7-10 days each year. Now the P-Zeros are shot and I plan to get some Continental ExtremeContact DWS All-Season tires in the next few weeks.
Seem to be highly regarded here at Camaro5.

I have the Pirelli snow tires and they are amazing. It was awesome to keep up with all of the 4 wheel drive cars in traffic on side streets and on the highway. Browsed the classifieds on here, used tires and even wheel/tire combos come up for sale all the time you can sometimes get stuff for half price. I got my tires used with only a season on them for half the cost of new.

The Camaro platform does not have a good base for driving in snow. It can really use the help of winter tires which have a lot more snow/ice traction when compared to an all season. If you only get an inch or two once or twice per year you could get by with an all season.

The Camaro is a very capable platform in winter, as long as you have a good set of tires. The near 50/50 weight distribution helps a lot. I've survived 2 Minnesota winters with mine without an issue. I picked up a cheap set of 19" wheels, and some Falken Eurowinter tires from my local Discount Tire. The car handled 4" of snow with no issue.

I highly recommend snow tires. It's just safer, and much easier to drive in snow. Got mine mounted on there own rims 3 winters ago from Tire Rack. Very happy I did.
All seasons on the right, Snows on the left:

heres a question for you guys running snow tires. what about when theres no snow on the roads? i was always told that snow tires wear out really fast when its dry. is that true? i only ask because i live in southern Maryland..not expecting a lot of snow. that, and my family is all up in NY so id be driving up there for Christmas and whatever else comes up. so id be driving like 300 or so miles one way in what i would assume would be dry roads (hopefully).
