Cars are getting a lot more expensive. The 200 hp BRZ is $25k. Inflation sucks but it is inevitable.

I over reacted to your comment. I'm still thinking in terms of early 2000 prices. I Probably won't ever buy a brand new performance vehicle because it's just too expensive for me.

2015 1SS; 32k before negotiations 2015 2SS; 32k before negotiations I agree that it's a shame we have to wait for incentives to get this pricing level, but it's part of the automotive game. Then we get to start discussing why GM thinks a 2SS today is worth 10k more than the 2SS from 5 years ago |

That little yellow Toyota SFR concept car? It looks like Toyota may actually be producing it. The price is crazy. Here's a snapshot from an SFR forum:
At $12,500 USD including tax (in Japan) this is an amazing effort. Granted it's pretty basic but it shows what can be done. I would definitely improve the style but hey, at that price I can easily see body kits as an aftermarket option. 47 mpg ain't too bad either.

Smaller footprint and not as tall as my now gone SAAB Sonett III, but weighs in a few hundred pounds more. That is if I'm reading the millimeters correctly. The Sonett is my favorite car all time.

Might be relevant to this thread, might not. Figured I'd share.

So they're trademarking something new...interesting. Well if they've read through this thread (and I wouldn't be surprised if they have), and taken note of the current state of sales of the 6th gen, we might see something new coming in the future. Making something affordable and fun with a new name would be a great move I think.
Keep the current Camaro as THE high performance 4-seater, and come out with essentially a revived pony car that costs at least a third less, with a fun factor based more on styling rather than expensive tech and performance. If it was aimed squarely at the 80% of the market that doesn't use the high tech or performance stuff anyways, and obviously doesn't want to pay for it, I think they'd have a winner. It doesn't even have to be a 2-door coupe; make it a 4-door so the rear seats are reasonably usable. There's nothing that says a modern pony car can't have 4 doors. I sure hope Chevrolet is considering this; they have everything they need, just need the will to do it.

130HP 109TQ is very, ok. Especially since everyone who owns an FR-S has gripe with the lack of power causing the car to be sluggish especially in the "dead zone" middle of the RPM range. And that's on the American 200hp 151tq FR-S. You can always add FI to it but now you're looking at a minimum of 30k for this car and then just barely breaking 300hp. So why not just buy a car that already has that power for the same money if not less? I don't think this thread is asking for that though, I'm pretty sure this thread is looking for the 275HP 2.0L to be available for cheaper, which it should. Personally I'd like to see GM get more into the AWD game and FI game. With cars its not always about HP per dollar, sometimes it is, but if you have room for gains/performance then the value is there it's just hidden for the enthusiasts to find. There's no reason GM can put the 2.0L Turbo into an AWD ATS and not do the same for the Cruze. Both cars are actually the same dimensions and would require changes to the accommodate the new engine and transmission which is easily done with a "New Generation" of vehicle. And even if GM is worried about internal competition, then tune it differently. Make an AWD Cruze LTZ with 225~ HP with room for gains because it's FI and AWD. Additionally the 2.0l turbo and V6 should be looking at smaller gaps between the next level of Camaro. No reason the 2.0l can't be above or at 300 HP and the V6 being closer to 375. (Personally I think it's a perfect sweet spot between the trim levels to see 75 HP differences, 2.0l 300hp, v6 375, v8 455) EDIT: Originally posted that you meant FRS not SFR. Regardless its supposed to have a corolla powerplant, but I don't think GM needs to make a Miata when there are so many competitors out there. Last edited by Baywire; 06-08-2016 at 11:11 AM. |
