Like others have stated, you have an awesome attitude but don't beat yourself up. There is nothing more or less difficult to tune with manifolds vs without. Headers would not have helped. The stock z28 manifolds are pretty good. I skimmed this thread but I would look for a bad injector or injector harness? Maybe trash got in that injector some how?

I may have missed it, are your plans to fix the factory engine sleeve?

no...not worth the hassle. Fix is potentially sketchy unless all of the sleeves are changed. So, I am going with an ERL forged shortblock.

For accurate readings the wideband must be installed before the catalytic convertor.

Stock injectors are fine unless you switch to a Fast/msd intake manifold.... This was 100% caused by the tune. I have honestly tuned this exact setup in over 100 cars... never had a single issue.... its simple a terrible situation. A very expensive one at that.

Wideband AFR guage for me baby. I honestly think we should have one on our cars if tracked regardless. Also is this possibly the culprit of having you car tuned with the AFR tool installed after cats and resulting in an inaccurate tune. An expert told me that either you install in that rear location if you are catless but with cats the bung would have to be put pre cat for proper tune.

I wifeband is a tool for tuning. Once a car is tuned there is really no need for a wideband AFR gauge unless the car has a known issue you are watching for. Usually by the time a driver notices the lean or rich condition on track it is too late and the damage is done. Most people think the dancing lights or readout is cool, but they are mainly for show on most cars. The only situation I had a wide Installed was on a turbo car that would crack manifolds at the collector. At idle I could tell by the AF it had cracked again but never looked at it at WOT. After 4 manifold cracked I went back to the stock log manifold and pulled the gauge.

Sucks to see. As Fran said, LS7s can handle heads/cam just fine. I've tuned 20+ of them personally, never had one pop, or any issues.
As for as a tuner picking up a bill, unless it was gross negligence I don't agree. A stock motor can fail. If people though tuners should pick up a bill when ever a motor pops, then tuning cost would be through the roof, and a lot of people just wouldn't tune. Customer accepts responsibility, and If they choose a tuner that is aggressive or doesn't know what they are doing, that is on them. Stephen has the correct attitude. One of the reasons I will only tune for close friends now is this attitude. I make too much at my day job to deal with the stress of people blaming a tuner for every little issue.

When you get your motor done, make a trip up to PA and have Mikey @ Rapid tune your car. You wont be disappointed.
