Have you experienced the Ice Mode brake issue with your ZLE at the track

Hello, I am creating this poll to determine if anyone who owns and tracks their ZLE has ever experienced ice mode brake issue.

Please refrain from responding if you do not have a ZLE and if it was some sort of other brake issue.

I am trying to determine whether or not I should get a ZLE and sell my heavily modified track prepped ZL1 that has rampant brake ice mode issues that I can’t get rid of.

Thanks in advance!

Just to be clear, ice mode is when you hit the brakes and your car does not slow down nearly as fast as it usually does, usually for about a second, usually causing you to either go off the track or almost go off the track) before it corrects itself unless you let your foot off the brake and reapply the brake yourself.

This is not ABS engaging

This is not a soft-pedal due to overheating brakes and fluid.

It is not brakes slowly working less well as they get too hot and out of their optimal operating temp range (if your pads Can’t handle the track and your driving style)

Ice mode happens seemingly randomly (even though it is not random) and the next subsequent braking events are completely unrelated and I impacted by prior events, since it’s a decision the computer braking system makes on its own when it thinks it might be on ice.

Have you ever had it happen braking in a straight line with zero steering input?

Not a ZL1 or ZLE, just an SS 1LE, but I've had Hard Pedal (ice mode) a few times. It's come down to a few things. Overly aggressive brake pads with a square tire setup, overlapping throttle and brake application while turning, braking in a straight line on a very bumpy surface. I have not done the EBCM upgrade yet but a friend stated that it helped him with ice mode.

Can you elaborate more on this please? I am looking to avoid this mess as well in my SS1LE

Also, once again, please do not respond to the poll unless you have a ZLE… User SCCAForums, I believe you drive an SS1LE not a a ZLE unless I’m mistaken…

I created this thread to help determine if I’m going to buy a ZLE and switch over all of my engine, brake and suspension parts from my ZL1, this will be time-consuming and expensive, and will determine if there’s any future for me in tracking, so I really need to know that the data I’m getting is accurate

Wouldn't it be simpler to just get a EBCM from a ZLE? You'd need one from an A10.

Are you using stock pads, or a pad with similar bite characteristics and release? (eg. DS2500)

He already did that, didn't work. Also GunMetalGrey, I think you just need to go out there and rent a ZLE on the track. I don't think you're going to get any good answers here, people drive differently, or don't drive close to the limit at all. Test it for yourself, you've spent enough time trying to fix this problem.

I thought he got a EBCM from a 2019+ ZL1, not a ZL1 1LE.

Don't think so, this was from one of his posts

"Last update on this, I went to the track to test the ZLE brake module with high hopes and expectations, however, I was disappointed, Ice Mode still exists even with the ZLE."

Oh, yeah, I see in his post history he had originally swapped for a 2019+ ZL1 module, then swapped to a ZL1 1LE module. There is no video from this most recent issue, but the one he posted with the 2019+ ZL1 module is clearly a split-mu condition causing hard pedal- https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showt...4#post11339634

He was running in PTM Sport 1, which does not activate the hardpedal-resistant calibration, so having the 2019+ module was no benefit in that instance. I haven't seen any video of his issue using the ZL1 1LE calibration.

Thanks for the responses… no way to rent a ZLE up here in Canada unfortunately

Also no video of the more minor occurrence of hard pedal / ice mode I just recently experienced, though it was on race mode (with the ZL1 OEM traction control module back in)… It was still scary because it happen right behind another car…

I went back to sport mode the previous time with the 2019 ZL1 ABS module because the ZLE traction control combined with 800hp on a tight small track was not something I was used to.

Thanks to Rotis and KHillCoaching, I’m thinking that changing my pads significantly as well as adding slicks might be enough… I have to admit that while testing with the ZLE module I was neither trying to avoid ice mode / hard pedal nor trying to induce it. I had Hawk 60’s on the car and Trofeo R’s

I’m thinking of going with Cobalt XR3 which apparently has less friction than a Ferado DS 1.11 but more than a DS2500 (though nobody on here seems to heave any experience with them)
