Wake up and smell the coffee. The GT500, in particular the '13-'14 models, do quite well at the track.

Back to the original topic.
Ford has been raising the hp levels on the GT, and it doesn't take much to make them smoking fast at the drag strip.
Dodge is now offering the 392 in the RT line, and with 485 HP to boot.
As far as halo cars like the GT500 and Hellcat, Chevy is pretty far behind the curve.

The 5th Gen is no lightweight, just barely lighter than a Challenger, and it's going to be interesting to see if they can lose substantial weight for the 6th Gen.
With the current EPA and safety regulations it's something that's proven difficult to do, just look at the new Mustang's weight gain.

The LS3 is a very capable engine, but if Chevy wants to play the musclecar game it needs to up the ante.

It's just the cycle working. Dodge will be on top for a very short time. Then the cycle will start over.

Last I checked, in 2012, Chevy made a Camaro called the ZL1 with 580hp. At the time, how much HP did the z06 have? 505.

GM/Chevrolet doesn't need to chase horse power.. For what purpose??.. We have the best track car out of all them with the Z28... The GT500 is barely faster than the ZL1 in a straight line and that's with almost an extra 100 HP!!!.. But the ZL1 will murder the GT500 on the track... 1LE handled their Boss.. And as far as V6's the Camaro is the clearly a better choice.. Camaro's only competition is it's self... Chevy isn't playing the Muscle car game.. They are playing the best around sports car game...

I'm much more interested in Handling, and styling and weight than trying to match HP. I mean, isn't it easier to add HP mods / tunes than to try to make a car handle better? I really don't know that answer to this. Don't get me wrong, i think Gen 6 ZL1 should have minimum of 625 HP, that would make me want it pretty bad.

The Z06, have they made it official at 650? I mean it still isn't released, so maybe it comes in at 675 all said and done???

I see folks on this forum with 700+ HP Camaro, so.... I don't know what it cost to get them there...but they did it, so i'll take the better looking, better handling, better technology car, then worry about adding HP later.

That's a completely different situation because the Z06 was naturally aspirated. The more relevant question is how much did the ZR1 make?

well, I didn't make that situation, I was just pointing out the flaw that the Camaro can't/wont have more power than the z06.

I never said the Camaro won't make more power than the Z06, I said the Camaro won't make more power than the comparable Corvette level. SS didn't make more than the base, Z/28 didn't make more than the Z06 and ZL1 didn't make more than the ZR1. With the Z06 likely being the top Corvette this generation, the ZL1 will like have 600-615 horsepower.

I didn't quote you initially...I quoted snakedriver, who said chevy wouldn't make a Camaro with more power than the z06.

The majority of Camaro owners will be buying the SS and the v6 models. How those stack up against the Mustang and Challenger compareable models will be more relevant to sales and success of the Camaro.
Exactly. Ford just released the official power/weight numbers of the 2015 Mustang lineup and uhh, well it's a snoozer. The Fusion looks, the 4 banger and now these numbers scream corporate sellout:

Quote:
3.7L V6
  • 300 HP / 280 LB-FT (on 93 octane) (down from 305 HP of 2014 S197)
  • Compression ratio: 10.5:1
  • Manual curb weight: 3526 lbs (+30 lbs increase over 2014 S197)
  • Automatic curb weight: 3530 lbs (+12 lbs increase over 2014 S197)
2.3L EcoBoost -- 310 HP / 320 LB-FT (on 93 octane)
  • Twin-scroll turbo—the first ever used on a Ford
  • Compression ratio: 10.5:1
  • Manual curb weight: 3532 lbs
  • Automatic curb weight: 3524 lbs
5.0L V8
  • 435 HP / 400 LB-FT (on 93 octane) (up from 420 HP / 390 LB-FT of 2014 S197)
  • Compression ratio: 11:1
  • Manual curb weight: 3705 lbs (+87 lbs over 2014 S197)
  • Automatic curb weight: 3729 lbs (+54 lbs over 2014 S197)

Don't expect the 5.0 output to stay the same. In 2 or 3 years I bet it's closer to 450.
