Balancing drag radials?

I apologize if this has been covered, did not find it in a search.
Do you want or need to balance drag radials? Tire will not be used for street driving at all, track only.
Car is 2017 ZL1 A10
Wheels are 17" welds
Tires are MT ET Street R 305/45R17

My concern with balancing is there is no clearance for inside weights between rim and brakes. Any help is appreciated! This is my first time using drag radials and want to shorten my leaning curve

Thank you
Travis

Are you going to drive on them daily? Many people don’t balance DR’s. If you want to balance them, have them force matched first. That will bring the amount of needed weight way down. It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but the 1/4 oz weights my shop uses are really thin and might clear. You won’t know till you try.

I’ve had to grind calipers down before for clearance, just depends on how bad you want them balanced.

I would definitely have them balanced. Ask them to put the weights as close as possible to the inner lip

No daily driving. I will put them on at the track.
What is forced match?

They make a couple different stick on weights. We have both thick and the thin weights which I have to use the thins or it will hit my calipers.

There's also the style that clips on to the bead of the wheel.

Basically instead of just randomly mounting a tire and balancing the wheel/tire together. You attempt to use the balance of the rim it’s self against the balance of the tire it’s self. The results depends on what the balance of each is, but sometimes it’s enough to not need any weight at all, to be in balance. Sometimes you’ll still need weight, but normally a much smaller amount.

I sure balance my drag radials and they also don't get street use. I use stick on weights and metal tape over them to ensure they stay stuck. I do have more room than the wheels/calipers shown do though. So long as they clear the rotating assy you are good to go.

This may be a stupid question, but why not use the balancing gel or balancing beads? That's what I've done on all my other wheels and tires and what I use in my motorcycle tires. Is this not a good idea with drag radials? I'm about to get some, so this will be good to know.

Yes, I have heard about the beads but they aren't recommended for racing. I wonder why that would be...
