Do you pay extra for top tier fuel?

The only reason I ask is because apparently lower tier fuel such as Valero is good enough for 5 time NBA Champion Tim Duncan...especially in what could only be assumed as an extremely modified GTR that he's driving. (For those of you who do not know, Tim Duncan is a car enthusiasts just like the rest of us who owns several exotics and actually owns his own custom speed shop here in San Antonio Texas).

Discuss?

Not sure what your after... Are saying the brand is no good or do you think he's pumping 87 octane? Not sure what you mean.

In PA we have a 10% blend. I use 93 octane in all my non-daily drivers. I try for Sunoco if I can.

In York, there are actually two stations (that I know of) that run 100% gasoline 0% ethanol. Hake's Grocery at the corner of Canal Rd. and Bull Rd. and then I can't remember the name of the place, but it's a few lights east of I-83 on the north side of highway 30. Hake's is 0% ethanol on all fuels and they have 93 octane, and the other one's top fuel is 91 octane which I know is ethanol free, not sure about their other grades.

Nice looking Camaro. You should come join us this spring for a SCPA5 Camaro meet.

Sorry for the thread jack OP.

91 Octane always (California), and I stick to Chevron, Conoco, Shell whenever I can. Top Tier... yes. Don't matter what the cost difference is... usually its negligible between Top Tier and not.

Valero is the only gas station in the area that sells the detergent gasoline that's recommended in our owner manuals, in my area at least

I always use 93 octane, almost exclusively Shell which is a top tier fuel. Most station here have 10% ethanol so its hard to get away from it or I would.

I no longer use Valero gas. When I ran it in my Lexus it would knock a little. Other 93 octane gas did not. Maybe my corner Valero guys are putting the cheap stuff in their pumps, I don't know.
But I usually run Chevron.

Honestly, it's [almost] all the same, as long as you're buying the right octane. Yes, there are small (VERY SMALL) differences in the detergents from the 'top tier' brands, but at the end of the day, it's all gas that came out of a refinery spec'd to the specific octane, so what brand you fill up with is not nearly as important as being sure you do it at a [relatively] high traffic station, in order to ensure that you're getting fresh gas.

source: I used to work directly with the guys that dumped it at your local Conoco/Phillips/76 station

I've never seen Valero or (anything "top-tier") around here. I always buy 93. I'm not dedicated to one brand of gas station, as long as it's a national brand. At some mom & pop convenience stores they just buy whatever they can get for the lowest price at the time, so I avoid those. I've also heard that sometimes they put low-grade gas in the premium wells and still claim it's 93.
