I will definitely agree, my Motul 660 is on its way to Abu Dhabi. I boiled the fluid on my track day and had a consistently spongy brake pedal once warm. The brakes worked good until they didn't. Luckily it wasn't on the back stretch of Yas Marina at 140 heading into that 90* left.

I think as I do a few more track days and gain confidence, I am going to find the limits of the factory brake setup on this track even with the Motul. Next up will be a set of pads which will also probably fall in line with a new set of supercar 3s and a better track alignment.

To be clear, are you saying that there is a difference in the bolt head or the actual bolt diameter?

I'll grab that for you later today.

Bolt head is smaller. Diameter is the same

Also, to re-inforce the 14.6"/13.3" "SS 1LE" brake setup being good enough, you can see what the SCCA Trans Am (TA4) and SCCA T1 guys are running...

TPR's Todd Napieralski (#39) run's the "SS 1LE" brake setup. Phoenix Performance's Andrew Aquilante (#32/36) looks to be running the SS setup (13.6"/13.3") so far. The #32/36 is new for this year and only has a race or two on it, so they may change the front setup to what the #39 runs. I know the #39 started with the SS setup...

Do note that the TPR car has the ZL1 1LE front end and the Phoenix car runs the SS front end.

Posted up some question on Andrew's Instagram about the brake setup on his car and this is what his comments were:

"Brembo racing 14" stuff currently. Could use 15" in certain classes"

asked further about the SS ABS system with slicks and the race brake setup:

"It works, but isn't great. Easy to get it upset."

He also went on and said that the car, in transformation from street car to race car, required very little and is a very competent, fast car.

Those are the Monobloc calipers from their motorsports line, not the same ones on the 1LE.

On the Pheonix car, yes, I know... I pointed that out in my update. But it seems the TPR car is using, or at least was last season, the GM two-piece, 6-piston factory (14.6”) 1LE Brembos.

Maybe TPR moved to the monoblock, 4-piston (pretty sure), 14” race setup, too, for this season. I dont know.

The point was, that the factory stuff can work, even in an actual race setting, but aren’t optimal. However, they are sufficient for HPDE.

It can’t be concluded, from the Pheonix car, that the 14.6” brakes aren’t good enough - maybe they didn’t even try them just went to the race stuff because they could and it’s proven. Probably less weight.
