?? Price check? Wanting to sell '02 Z28, no idea about asking price.

We want to start downsizing for my wife's pre-retirement planning in about a year or so, so we decided to start with this one. I've been talking about it for the last year, but just can't seem to be 100% ok with letting it go. Probably never will be, but gotta do what's right for us.

Car in question: My wife's 2002 Camaro Z28, auto, 2.73 gears, ebony cloth interior in very good condition. About 29 mpg if you're easy on it on the highway. 74,667 one-owner miles. No wrecks and never raced or abused. Owned since new. Well maintained. Stock as a rock. Had the infamous glue bubbling top issue a couple of years in and entire top replaced under warranty. No bubbling. Added a Firebird power antenna and SLP grille, and blacked out rear panel just because.

I know KBB and other venues offer prices all over the map. Not looking to buy a new car, so I'm not considering trade in, but we'd like to sell it because basically we don't drive it very much anymore. Not that it's a pile of crap- on the contrary. I'd hop in it and drive it anywhere. It's kind of a fun car, but we have 2 other Camaros, my truck, and her Caddy Wagon CTS...just too many cars.

Everything works, no SES codes, all stock. Starts every time, willing to go anywhere. Wife didn't want T-tops, so it's a solid top car. I know that's kind of rare and of no value, but hey, no top leaks!

I'm thinking of asking $6,250. Is that a fair place to start? All opinions welcome.

That's a pretty good price actually, if I had the $$ and was closer.

That number sounds good. It should move pretty quick.

I wouldn't budge from that. Damn, if only this were a few months ago and a manual transmission. I bought another car earlier this year and had my heart set on a low milage 4th gen.

Do not budge off this price, it's a steal.

It should go quick at that price. I'd check a few listings (cars.com; ebay-(ebay is high), edmunds) before setting your asking price.

Seems like a pretty fair starting price, I would be willing to negotiate a little...

Pros: Mileage, No accidents, and 1 owner

Cons: Not a lot of options, Auto trans, color may/may not limit your market

Thanks for the opinions. Been looking at several web ads for '02 Camaros. It's weird that many used dealers are asking this much or more for base V6 Camaros or 50% more for Z28s that are pushing more than 100K miles, even private sellers seem to be asking more. Of course that's asking, not selling prices.

I'm no fan of the automatic trans either, but it is the wife's car, so that's what it has. I guess it's optioned with enough stuff. It has the typical power everything, tilt, cruise, rear defog, Monsoon CD, etc. What it lacks is ASR, CD-Changer, Leather seating, Chrome wheels and T-tops.

I'm thinking it may be a perfect start for a hot rodder high school kid starting out. Not a big price tag but plenty of potential. I dunno.

It looks like prices really are all over the map. I'm pricing it to sell, not to keep or give away, though. From the looks of it, I think it's a lot better deal than most out there.

I might even roll into CarMax and see what they'll offer. It'll probably be insulting, but it can't hurt.

I didn't even think about the year of the car, you have the more desireable LS6 intake which can only help with sale.

That's a screaming deal! Most of the ones I'm seeing for sale where I'm are are all over 100k miles, and people are asking 9-12k

I think for the year, mileage and condition your price is actually a little low. I definitely would not sell it for less than that price. I would think you should be able to get at least 9-10k for it being stock mechanically, a few nice cosmetic mods, being only a 1 owner car, and having low mileage. But it always depends on how fast you want to sell a car too. Lower price = quicker sale. Hardtops are also more rare and many times can be a selling point since there are a lot of people that are hesitant with T-tops for fear of leaking problems. You could probably get more than 10K for it with the right buyer looking for a good unmolested stock 4th gen.
