Then you have all the shitty hype companies that exploded and sunk just as fast.. Go Pro, Fitbit, etc.. And some that are still overvalued imo like Facebook. Good luck in the market. |

There are things a dealer can do to lower the price without rebates. The dealers are not worried about the sales of one specific model of a brand they sell.

Re Test Drives: Pulled up to the local Chevy Dealership where I had to order my 2012 Buyback 2012 Camaro Convertible. Pulled up in my car, top down, all clean and looking like new. Once I got out a salesman came over and asked if he could help me. I said sure, let's take that yellow SS for a test drive. He told me we only let potential buyers take them for a ride. Now, my car is paid off, I could trade my old car in and pay the cash difference for the current one they had outside. It rubbed me the wrong way that is for sure. Not that he lost a sale cause right now I am not interested in moving up to a 6th gen, just wanted to feel it out to even see if I was. But turning away customers that even pull up in a 5th gen is just poor business practices.

I'm not a big fan of car salesmen or dealerships, but I do give them credit for being able to tell a potential customer from a low prospect looky-loo....
I'm sure they can tell immediately (from experience) whether or not going on a test drive is worthwhile or not... |

I'm struggling to decide whether to do test drives or not. I know I'm going to buy the car anyway. Not sure if I want to go through the trouble of feigning interest in talking about the car to sales people or not. The odds of me finding an ideal sales person (seen not heard, speak when spoken to, knows not to BS me, etc, etc) are very slim. Then again, it might be me who's antisocial behavior at car dealers that makes them so irritating.

My local dealer is starting to burn thru Camaros. They need to do something about the pricing options though...I bought my 2012 base trim V6 for 24k and the new V6 is listed at 31k.
I know you get a better car but that's pretty close to what a 5th gen 1SS would run. |

Ummm. When do the June numbers come out so that we can let this useless May sales numbers thread run out of breath?

June numbers won't come out until the month of June is over....I predict somewhere around July 1....So, until then this thread may continue to breathe.

The biggest issue I find with American cars are the dealers. It's beyond hit and miss. When ever I shopped for trucks or cars, you can tell the difference between the Japanese stores and the American. The Honda stores for example feel like you're walking in to any big box retailer, same with Carmax. No different than walking in to a Best Buy. The American car dealers feel like you're walking in to typical car dealer. Same with the service experience, my local Chevrolet dealer was pretty decent. But from what I experienced, Ford is terrible. The entire experience is a crap shoot at best.
