Heads Up For K&N Intake Users
Just thought I would let everyone know that GM has issued a bulletin about K&N cai's causing a failure in cylinder #7 on Camaro SS models. In the event you are using a K&N intake and experience a failure, GM WILL NOT COVER THE FAILURE UNDER WARRANTY. This bulletin was specifically for the K&N brand CAI systems and was specifically for the V8 model Camaros across all Gen 5 production years.
I just wanted to give everyone a heads up on this as I found out about it today at the dealership. I'm guessing if you swap the stock setup back in before taking it in, you might be alright. Anyway, thought i would share. |

I have a V6 and a K & N 63 series and have never had any cylinder firing issues.

That's because people aren't smart enough to clean the excess oil off the filter before they put it in or they over oil it when they clean it. The excess oil gums everything up. The SS isn't the first car to have problems with people not following the k&n instructions properly. Although this is the most severe problem I've heard about. Usually it just gums up the MAF sensor and is fixed by simple cleaning the MAF.
I was thinking about getting the k&n, and truth be told, if the parts store would have had it, I would have bought it already. I'm too impatient to order one. I may still get one anyway. |

Link to bulletin? I find it strange that they're blaming K&N intakes specifically. On the JRE CAI shootout the K&N Air Charger AFR was 12.0:1; very safe. If it were due to the oiled filter you would think they would be blaming almost every intake instead of just one, although I know some K&N filters are a little heavy on the oil out of the box, and it seems most end users over oil them...
Just wondering what they are claiming specifically caused this? |

I know, that is what makes it funny. I only have 6 cylinders. Maybe I should have put a (sarcasm) quote after it. LOL

Just does not make sense , filter oil should not cause any piston or cylinder failure. The stock PVC hose blows oil through the intake already unless you have an oil catch can. Just can't be filter oil related.
