Smaller, lighter, harder to meet CAFE regs

I expect to see something similar to what Cadillac has done, eliminate the powerful V8 replacing it with a V6 Turbo. The power is in the same league as present.

This is why I decided to buy the new 2014 now. This Golden Era of performance is at its peak. In the old days, emissions were the root cause. Today the drive to gain higher MPG's is the force at play, right or wrong.

Can't look at the Corvette too much, I think. They too seriously considered a blown V6. Yet, this is an ultra sports car in fairly low volume. GM can allow the Vette to play. I'm not nearly as sure about the Camaro. They killed it once. We cannot take for granted it will survive as is.

Understand please, I will be happiest if I am wrong about Gen 6 in this respect.

In the mean time, I'll continue to enjoy the excellence of the 5th Gen.

V8's in these cars just feels right. However one cannot deny that in the near future we will most likely see "big" V8's in only the highest trim/performance models. These of course will come at a very high premium much akin to what you see in the Euro market. The more pedestrian base models you'll see the rise of more pedestrian drivetrains. Meaning 4cyl in base and 6cyl models in middle trims, they will most likely be boosted, even augmented with performance hybrid tech, or both.

Either way, the future will be...interesting.

V8 Reasons:

1. Turbo lag is not your friend on the track
2. NA is a simpler, easier design to own
3. TT v6 too expensive to build for the market the Camaro sells in (reason #2)
4. There is no substitute for the sound and torque of a V8.

I think GM should make the 130R for smaller engines similar to the 2-Series BMW and make the Camaro V8 only. This would keep the Camaro from the compromising trap and let it be the 4 seat hot rod/track beast that keeps Chevy 'cool' along with the Corvette.

Probably, I would stick with the V-8, but there's nothing wrong with offering a V-6 turbo, particularly on a smaller platform.

Here is my best guess and only a guess

V6 3.8: all 1LS, 2LS, 1LT, 2LT
V6 3.0 twin turbo: RS only
V8 LT1: 1SS and 2SS
Z/28 and ZL1 will not be made 1 or 2 years after initial 6th gen release depending they plan to recycle the LS7 or LS9 or LT4 after they make the next generation LT4 1 or 2 years after the release of the Stingray Z06 which would probably be 1st gen LT4 Z/28 or ZL1 and 2nd gen LT4 Stingray Z06.

I want a N/A V8 over a trubo V8 or trubo 6.

Turbos on any engine kill engine response, kill engine/exhaust sound and create extra heat. Also of people who track there cars do not like the trubo engines for a few reasons. The power is less predictable with trubo, you also have at times to much torque at times.
