Ford gunning for the Z/28?

Not sure if this is old news or not but looks like Ford is coming out with the Shelby GT350 to compete with the Z/28. Just saw this article on Facebook...

http://www.caranddriver.com/features...-gt350-feature

Looks like it will be running a voodoo 5.0 motor pushing 550 hp and similar suspension & brake tech as the Z/28. Guess it was a matter of time being that Ford and Chevy are such fierce competitors. I do think it's pretty appealing that this car could come in at the $50K mark where as the Z/28, at least to me, is pretty unattainable at $75K. Not saying I would jump ship because I prefer Chevy over Ford and I like the look of the Camaro way more than the Mustang...regardless of which car is quicker. Pretty good time in general for muscle cars...some pretty quick cars out there from both camps with lots of options to choose from.

Sorry but those are hideous looking cars haha. Isn't the performance why they shied away from the sport backing?

If this really is going to be a 8k+rpm 550hp car, i hope ford puts a good tire on it to send all the z28 fans scratching their head....especially for 50k lol. I personally still don't understand and probabaly never will why the z28 is 75k.

Ford is going to make a Bad ass car with an awesome engine with good power, and awesome suspensions setup, and then end up putting 255/40-19 all seasons on it like the always do...

Ya for sure...the price is the only thing I don't like about the car.

"So why call it a Shelby instead of a Boss or a Cobra or a Mach (or a Sprint or a Ghia or . . .)? Because attaching the Shelby name allows Ford to charge more."

Straight from the article, they speak the truth.

Yeah, I'd say if it does hang with the Z/28 for $50,000 then Chevy better wake up and smell the bargain. It's no surprise that Ford would want to build that. If Ford came out with a better track car first then Chevy would want to gun for them.

Lets see them offer carbon ceramic brakes, multimatic shocks and P Zero Trofeo's for that price.

If they do more power to them, but knowing Ford the base car will be $50k and options to make it Z/28 worthy will add 25k.

wow, 50k. I thought the Camaro was the one with the affordable sports car title and Mustang was the muscle car king? At least in popular opinion, GM better wake up. If Ford has a car that performs like that that comes in at the pricing, lol.

I don't see it being able to hang with the z/28 on a track. It might beat it in a straight line . No way it will out break it.

But will they give you a track warranty like the Camaro? To be honest, the fact that GM has said the warranty will cover track use on the Z/28 is what impresses me the most. I can't think of a single car other then the Z/28 that is covered on the track.

And I think if Ford builds it right it could easily run with the Z/28. The new Mustang is already lighter then the Z/28. If they strip it down the weight gap will just increase. No more solid rear axle will close the gap preformance too. We're taking about a car that is lighter and has more power then the Z/28. If they can get the suspension set up right, put decent tires on it and through i a little flying car magic, It will be close.
