any one else hate this...

I hate the silver color on the gauge surround, bottom of the steering wheel and the middle vent. Its so blah, and doesn't match the grey of the console. I was thinking of having these all painted ashen grey to fit the interior better. Does this bother anyone else or is it just me? This is truly the only thing about my ZL1 I don't like. I even like the stereo!

The interior in general is my least favorite thing about mine.

It's not so much that, but I know what you mean.

The general shape of all that jazz on the steering wheel bothers me and the ugly gold bowtie staring at me like a booger on the wheel bugs me. I like the way the early steering wheels on 5th gens look better, but I guess some people didn't like the way they feel or something, I don't know.

how'd you get the steering wheel apart to get to the silver pieces?

Pops right out, be gentle so you don't break it or set off the airbag (pull the airbag fuse). The bottom center black mesh comes out first, then the right and left piece. The sterio and cruise control buttons stay on the wheel. You have to wiggle the right and left piece out from behind the airbag front cover. much harder to get back in.

Never had to disable or take apart the steering wheel or airbag.

I like the look but sometimes the sun reflects off the steering wheel and it sucks.

I hate this interior. But not enough for me to turn down the car.

I wouldn't say I hate the interior but I will say that this black suede shows every little flake of dust compared to the orange leather I had in my SS. I could've done without the suede fold down on the dash and around the radio as well. with the miles I put on the car I don't think any of the suede is lasting as well or as long as the leather in my '10 SS did (had 75k miles when traded). my shift knob was warrantied already for excessive wear and my suede steering wheel is almost shiney.

...to the OP that stuff does not affect me. I am too focused on trying to operate the car safely within my envelope. Besides, I think the trim inside the car looks marvelous. I especially like the footwell lighting option, in blue, that is when I get a chance to notice it....just sayin'....

That's why I didn't order that sueded option. If the base ZL1 steering wheel was plastic instead of smooth leather then I would have had to take the suede option, but I like the smooth leather wheel just fine.
