Is The GM Buy Power Credit Card Worth It?
This seems like a no brainer to me. But before I apply, I need a little more information from you guys who have it. I just wished I had this credit card PRIOR to me buying my new 6th gen. On the GM Power Card website it seems there are different cards, one for personal, one for business and one for family, is this correct? It seems if you apply for the business card you are entitled to more benefits.
With this GM Power Credit Card you get points toward your next GM car purchase, is this correct? You get discounts for accessories/parts purchased? What is GM supplier pricing? Does this credit card help you get supplier pricing? I wish I had this credit card a year ago, It would have saved me a ton of money...............Urghhhhh!!! What are your guys thoughts? BTW, I'm loving my new Camaro!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just apply for a personal Buypower card. You won't regret it if you intend to buy GM vehicles in the future. I've used just shy of $20,000 in card earnings on 8 new GM cars since 2002. I've held the original card since 1993.

Do you get discounts off of GM parts/accessories? Do you get discounts off of money spent when you take your car into the service department for oil changes, tire rotations, etc., etc....

You don't get direct discounts but you do get 5% back on EVERY purchase up to $5k/yr then 2% afterwards with no limits.

I decided to grab it. Even if you don't buy a vehicle with the points you can always SELL the points for real CASH to another person who is going to buy a car.

The newer cards don't let you stack it with Employee Pricing

Here's some questions,
1. Is there a time limit on when you have to use up your points that you've accumulated? Let's say I have accumulated 2,000 points for the year of 2016. But I don't intend on using them toward buying a car in 2016, Can I use these points for the year 2017 or 2018? 2. For every $1 I spend how many points do I get? OR for every $100 I spend, how many points do I get? 3. What other places can I use this card? 4. Can I use it as any normal credit card?

1. Points do expire, but not for an extended period of time... earning points now will allow you to use them in the next couple of years. 2. per a previous post you get 5% back for the first 5K you spend on the card, and 2% thereafter 3 & 4 - Its a regular credit card. you can use it anywhere you can use a MC or Visa. I have one and have $2200 that I am using towards a purchase. additionally they occasionally have promo's where they will give you bonus points. So as long as my order comes in before 2/29, I have an additional $2000. In total that is $4200 that goes in my pocket that would otherwise be going towards the car. Depending on the card, there are maximums you can put towards any one vehicle purchase. The only reason to not get it is if you are not 100% sure you will buy a GM car in the future. if that is the case you can/should use another card that gives you some sort of points back towards something you will definitely use. I use a credit card for everything i possibly can, and split purchases between my GM card and my United Airlines Mileage card. |

Wow . Which card do you have ? I had $2818.41 and got no bonus money but did get the much greater increase in the redemption limits at least. Way to go on the $2000 bonus to go with that large of a balance to start with ! |

You earn 5% in dollars, not points and they do not expire for 7 years on my card.

It was actually very unexpected. I went to the dealership, had the order almost finalized and just wanted to review to make sure i didn't miss anything (luckily i did, because they accidentally removed the NPP). When i got home that night, i saw a mailer from GM that informed me that i had $2000 in bonus money that increased my total earnings to $4200. The only catch is that I need to take delivery by 2/29. In reality i just need a VIN for them to get the paperwork done so the car doesn't actually need to be on site. If the VIN isn't available within a reasonable amount of time, I can cancel the order and scour the dealers in my area with a config that I am happy with so I can take advantage of the bonus. |
