copart is just an insurance auction company. they don't do anything with the cars.
somebody wrecks camaro, camaro totalled, camaro towed to copart, insurance company pays insured for car, then copart auctions car to recovers some money for insurance company. copart don't do anything except store the car and do title work and post info for auction. ask them, you might be able to inspect the car. I thought you needed a dealer license to buy these cars? IAA - Insurance Auto Auctions is the other big insurance auction company here in the NE |

I actually worked for that company quite a few years back. seeing what they do (I worked in the yard where they got accident or damaged cars) they would auction them off to dealers. from what I found they were honest and didn't try to trick people. the dealers however would buy flood damaged cars and alter the title. Carfax and those companies make it harder now. all in all its ebay for damaged cars. a rear ended car will still be very high priced since the motor for the most part should still be intact. they have been around for at least 10 years (that's how long ago I worked there) so I would say you can be confident in using them if something catches your fancy

most of the cars there will be salvaged titles... so in Cali after fixing it you'll have to have it inspected before they give you plates. it will always have the salvaged title and will be worth less than other cars
sometimes you can get them with clear titles... these would be more valuable to fix up |

Thanks for the info - yeah, Copart doesn't do anything to the cars, except sell them at auction. Some reviews I've read on the company aren't terribly favorable.
In Calif., as in other states, you do need to have a particular dealers license to purchase wrecked/salvaged cars on most auctions sites. There are a number of companies that will allow you to bid under a proxy - they give you a login other than your own and the max bid is determined by your credit card limit and your agreement with them. Looking to restomod a Gen 1 Camaro with a late model Camaro donor. Nick |

The cars we send to copart have clean titles, but the vehicles are wrecked/totalled.

What motor/trans are you looking for? There's a LS3 and TR6060 from a 1LE and a CTSV LSA and 6l90 near me on Craigslist. It'd probably be easier than buying a whole car for just a couple pieces.

Alternatively, an LS3 and 6 speed manual Camaro. Really looking for an auto already on the back (computer and all), but those don't exist. All SS auto Camaros are L99's (correct me if I'm wrong on that) - had that discussion on here sometime back and decided against it. BTW, was at the Chevy dealer recently and there was a new full size SS Chevy with an LS3 and automatic - go figure. Last edited by pcguy2u; 06-14-2014 at 07:21 AM. |

i have bought a lot of cars on copart, including my camaro. If you know what you are doing you can score some really good deals. I have only bought cars that need "minor" damage, I've never bought anything like a rollover. Talk to a body shop and show them pictures before you bid on a car. You need a dealer license or you have to go through a broker to bid.

You need a business license to directly bid on most vehicles, and you need to file a deposit.

I run a Lease Here Pay Here car lot and Copart is where we send our cars if I can't resell the vehicle for various reasons, ie: depreciation, millage, wrecked, or mechanical.
