Key fob cloning increasing Camaro thefts

https://www.latimes.com/california/s...ith-clone-fobs

Just a heads up, if it's in LA today it'll be nationwide before long. It happened with the Kia thefts where they figured out a USB drive could start the cars. If you aren't using some other anti-theft device, maybe consider it. Fuel cutoff switch, locking OBDII port cover, etc. Mine is a manual, so that eliminates 90% of the thieves.

I don't visit here much since the ridiculous splash screen ads and rolling banners ruined it for me, but figured the community should have the heads up.

How do you that? And WE shouldn’t have to do anything. The site shouldn’t post ads on it.

If the site didn't post ads it wouldn't exist, count your blessings.

That is what I was thinking. Locksmiths and the dealer can create a physical key, but you have to marry the fob to the car for it to work and that requires an already working key. Hell, my car does not even have a USB port and I did not want one.

It is, for the "keyless" start cars. I believe. They had the same thing happen with the Kia's, Hyundai's and Toyota's that had the keyless push button start fobs.. I keep my Hyundai fob wrapped in foil when I'm not in it, and it works, no signal to the car!!

Yup, not a concern if you're still in the metal key club.

I get that sites needs ads, and that's why I don't use an ad blocker. Personally, I find the level of ads that move and take up screen space annoying. The site owner is free to utilize the level of advertising they feel best fits their needs, and I'm free to not utilize the site as frequently due to that. I'm not trying to eliminate their income stream, I just don't enjoy the product that much any longer.

So when this site first started? I don’t recall ads that take up the whole page etc. one can only guess in 10yrs it’ll look like a porn site with the amount of ads overrunning the site…

And plenty upcoming sites don’t have ads. It’s once established it has them. Craigslist is still basically a MSDoS site free to use, no ads. But it’s fine. We can circumvent all the ads crap. I mean, an ad NEVER got me to say you know what? I’m gonna buy that! But lots of impulse buyers. I get it
