I did suspension upgrades and full cam build, with zero intentions of going to the track. even had better and lighter rims and tires. It simply made the car more fun than factory and sound a hell lot better. Did i go for a big WHP number, not really. put a somewhat mild cam in and made around 455WHP. and to be honest i was happy with stock power. just because you do not hit the track means you cannot build a powerful engine, even if its for daily driving ? kind of BS Track or not i am a car enthusiast! |

I wasn't involved in the original parts selection. It was a shop car when Momentum was operating up in Dallas. But being that we all were (and still are) road racing, I'd bet the decision was for a slightly better torque curve versus peak hp in the G6. IIRC, I think Anthony said I might pick up 10 to 15 hp if I replaced the G5 with the G6......at a slight cost to low end torque.

have doubts?... pull up youtube and check out Nicks and other Lethal car times..
there is no disputing it. the Lethal Cars flat destroy at the track with that cam and a blower setup.

I know 113 lobe separation angle cams work with forced induction Okay....but definitely not outstanding. Waaay too much overlap for a blower setup to gain maximum potential.

My point was after having been around this lifestyle for so many years in various vehicles, there's a group of people who just grab a magical number and think it's what is going to make them happy, and when you ask them pointed questions, they have no idea how they arrived at that magical number, and even further, they don't even know the numbers they currently have. But yes, in the end, it's what they want. I just go about my stuff in my own methodology that makes sense to me. Maybe it doesn't make sense to anyone else, but in the end, it's what I want. Anyway, this all seems to be a very sensitive issue to most. Good luck and have fun.

I say what I say (chasing HP numbers) because I have seen this all before regardless of the car or group, and yes, most can't tell you how they got to some sort of number- maybe a SWAG (a scientific wild ass guess), because their friend says it is or a magazine said it is. Then you ask how are you going to get there, and then the reply is hellifino. I used to have to sit down with people like this and ask these questions because these were business decisions. It existed well before me, and will exist for as long as there are things that go fast. I think it's completely stupid to shoot for 500+ whp when 450 whp would suffice, hell, maybe 250 whp, but again as stated it's what the person wants. I don't get warped over it because it ain't my shit. Back on the original thread topic, my stance is that it is not a waste of time. What I think makes no difference to anybody else. In the end, it's my car and my money and whether I stay NA or go FI (which will probably happen knowing my tendencies) and it's your car and money and so forth and so on. How one wants to get up there where the big numbers are is a their business. Again, thanks for your constructive critique of my online persona.

thank goodness you aren't in charge of performance division at GM or the dept of transportation we would all be regulated to driving Smarts with 100hp if it were up to you it sounds. There is no such thing as "enough" there is always something else to shoot for they are called "goals" and last time I checked Track times combined with dyno slips were a pretty good indicator of true HP. BTW his critique of your online persona is on the money you do come off harsh and condescending. Now I know I do as well sometimes but people I know have brought it to my attention and I have been trying to be better at writing to not sound like that type. Sometimes we should listen to others about how they see us.

They probably choose the 500+ number because that is the only way they have to describe how fast their car is to their peer group. Yours is probably a different story, but most of the people in my life would look at me confused if I started throwing 1/4 mile times at them. 500 sounds impressive to non-gearheads and it IS impressive to actual gearheads that know what it takes to get this motor there.
